Good Morning!

Post by SandyM » Fri Feb 26, 2016 7:27 pm

Took my silkie out of her nesting box around 5 because she hadn't been out. Even though Doug says she'll be fine I wanted to make sure she would come out in her 'new surroundings'. I felt like I was birthing her out of the canal. She was not coming out willingly. But she ate and drank for maybe 5 minutes and then right back on her eggs.

Holy poop! She has 10 eggs under her. TEN!! Where and when did she steal all these eggs??
I took a big broody poop out if the nesting box. OMG big and smelly. GAGGED a few times. (Weak stomach) ugh! Terrible stench.

Ten eggs!! I just don't even know. She must of been hiding them in her pockets.

Yay for babies!!!!!!!!!

Ha! Thanks!!
So stressed. I might be the worst grandma ever. I keep checking her for a pulse. I'm pretty sure she's told me where to go a few times. How can this little active chatty girl eat a nibble and a sip of water a day and survive? But poop out a monster size poop? I have a headache. Might be easier on me if I just sit on the eggs and call in room service. LOL.

Morning all! Ahhhhh saturday. Weekend. Woke up and theres deer in the field right by the horse fence. Looking awesome for this time of year. Maple syrup being finished on the stove....2 pips in the turkey incubator...hatch day tomorrow. I dropped the temp 1 degree this time because last year i only ever managed to hatch 2 poults. Fingers crossed. Have to get feed today and spend some time moving boys into new breeder groups. I had a first yesterday-a breeder cockerel actually managed to remove his leg band. Lol. Found him walking around with it in his beak showing it to the girls making that "i found something yummy" call. My hobby farms poultry annual came in on thursday...first on my reading list while having breakfast lol. Looks like a beautiful day here...sap will run for sure!!

Sandy-broody moms meditate....they go into this almost hibernation mode...dont bug her too much. Clean out stinky poos once a day (there will only be 1or maybe 2 at the most in a day). Dont push her off the nest-you dont want to accidentally break broodiness...cause then you will have 10 eggs needing an incubator and 1 or 2 down the bra might be ok but 10??!! (I have read where someone incubated an egg that way....no experience personally lol)

Hope everyone has a good one

Good luck with the hatch WLLady!!

I picked up a bunch of hobby farm mags from the library yesterday. I walked in to get a few things and they said look what you didn't know we had haha! They're right. I did not know. A lot of advertising like most magazines but some interesting articles to read for sure.
Got Storeys guide to raising ducks too. I'm determined to make it work this year.

Its warming up out there!! Can feel it in the ever present wind. I started the truck on the way to the barn, turned on everyones lights, and bedded the cows real quick. Went to the feed store, and got 20 bags shavings and 10 bags layer pellets. I go thru almost 7 a week!

Then unloaded that, and now sitting. Was going to get a cup of coffee... then decided on water. I don't seem to drink much of that. Just tea/coffee/tea/coffee.....

So, now I am going to go out and clean out the middle barns two pens. Well, the fronts of them. The girls roost on the pen fronts, and then it gets messy down below. Both in and out the pen, lol. Depends on which way they face.

Going out for supper with friends. Well... I don't really want to... but I guess we are. I didn't get asked, or a say. I made it plain to hubby, that I don't WANT to go, after he got off the phone. Well, feed guy is coming around 1pm, with coffee and dessert, lol. Sheesh. Whats with the food these days?? So, a tea biscuit for breakfast, and nothing else til supper. (cept dessert, lol). Hoping to actually get the log splitter going, and split some wood. We got some awesome maple a church down the road had.. they took out some trees. Monster trees. Some rotted in the center, but some of the outside stuff is good. Also got a nice log out of one of the limbs. Its that big!

Ok... have a good weekend!! Let us know how the hatch is doing WLLady! If it works for you, I will turn down my bator a degree when it gets closer. I should candle the corrie eggs.... theres 8 in there with the turkeys.

Great morning surprise, one of the little pullets Joan gave us presented us with her very first beautiful blue egg! SHe let everyone know too. SO pleased because I'll be able to give an Easter Surprise to the neighbours grandkids. The little girl was so excited one year to collect her very own egg for easter breakfast.
