Time to chime in...not that my opinion truly counts for much, but meh, why not.
On the topic of bear proofing, not sure that there is a 100% gauranteed method but
@ross ' idea on the electric fence works...the trick is to have at least one wire at nose height and that's a guess on how big the bear is....if it get its face between the wires all bets are off, he (or she) will have their way with the coop....this method works for bee keepers....and as an aside fyi, bears don't go for honey...they want the bee larvae in the cells.
On the topic of thia crazy weather last weekend, it came on fast but the brunt of it passed us just a little to the north....I could watch it clearly move along....we got some dandy wind that blew atuff around and broke smaller weaker branches off trees and the rain was crazy wild for a quarter hour but thats about it...I had dozens and dozens of tomato seedling in trays on the lawn hardening off this past week and it musta looked silly as MJ and I scurried to get them under cover before the wind really hit....I have 4 daughters one in Kanata, one in Stittsville one in south Ottawa and one in Arnprior...the ones in Arnprior and Kanata faired well, no real issues, the one in Stittsville lost a goodly portion of her roofing shingles as did almost all of her neighbours...the roofers are gonna do quite well this summer....and the one in south Ottawa just got her power on at supper time today...a week without power...no damage just no electricity....lost a lot of food along the way...no one hurt tho, so thats good...I never lose power here...just sayin'..lol...hadta add that part...
Waiting for 24 eggs to hatch on Monday/Tuesday...all Wellies...hoping for at least 50% hatch success...wish me luck, and yes, pix are mandatory....yes yes yes...stay safe folks

If you don't plant the tree, you will never have the fruit...
