Re: Plans for 2018 breeding season...
I know I am off topic sort of, but www's last post about traits from mom to son, sire to daughter ring true. I have noticed it with my goats. Priya, my champion producer mothers ok milking offspring, but not up to her volume. Her son has bred several of the neighbor's goats, and the girls he has produced have their grandmothers bag and milking ability. This is just observation, not xy-f1 etc that I have a passing knowledge of but not deep understanding. I admire those that do understand it thoroughly but too much of it makes my head hurt.

I have to admit I didn't believe you, KB, I apologize. I thought surely you were being overly critical .

Weights weren't toooo bad 3 - 3 1/lbs with a couple below 3lbs. The 2 younger pullets came out at 2 1/2lbs so not bad for them (well you know what I mean)!

I think that breeding Chunky (sire) to all this years pullets is the way to go, that way if they throw a decent cockerel, he can then be bred to the hens (K&B) the year after.Killerbunny wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2017 4:07 pmThese are WAY better than mine! The have a chest. I'll stick with Mr CHunky next year I think.
Jan will confirm after tomorrow how truly awful they are. The pullets however are lovely and typey!
We tend to rush to find a replacement, but there is never guarantee that it will throw a better progeny.
I am slowly getting a clearer picture, Thank you Jan and Kathy and KB
of what I will do next year God willing and creek don't rise.
