Good Morning!
sandy, i think my jenny has been sitting around 22 days now. or 21. or 23. or more. or less LOL. i figure i will hear them when they hatch. First time she has ever sat, so it'll be whatever it is.
very nice little fuzzybutts there hayladee! yay!
ice everywhere this morning. had to salt the stairs. of course, after the dog went flying down them...sigh. he's okay, hurt pride mostly, wiping out in front of the other dog...that didn't wipe out-because he's older and wiser....LOL. good news is the turkey poults were all under the brooder plate this morning, so it's looking hopeful that they've figured out how to stay warm. fingers crossed. they'll need it tonight.

Good Morning!
Well I'm just not as smart as I'm sure everyone else is when it comes to nesting boxes for broodies. I'm pretty sure the chicks can't get out of this box when hatched. Cause I didn't think of that. LOL. They love these snuggle boxes for laying eggs, but definitely not meant for chicks. I have to keep an eye out for when they hatch, then figure it out.
Careful out there!!

Good Morning!
Well, you'll be looking in a couple times a day, and a chick won't starve in the first couple of days because they have all that yolk in their tummies. so don't worry sandy. you'll hear mom clucking away to the little ones...
i'm worried that the tom thats in with my jenny will kill the poults...so i plan on kicking him out into the main part of the barn when she does. the cats would hunt the poults if i put them in the main part of the barn, but big old mr tom should be just fine. especially if i let him go outside too. lol. then i'll need a shorter waterer and feeder LOL. right now i use buckets for the adults....the poults definitely can't reach....LOL
stay warm everyone!

Good Morning!
Good morning. Crappy drive this morning. First, my windshield wipers were froze.... then I could only get stuff out of one side. Drove that way. My heated mirrors weren't working either. Hot water on them, but then they froze up again. I had to open the fuse panel door, and press all the breakers. Kind of neat that nothing is labelled on that panel. GAWD.
Then I wasn't sure I could get out my driveway. I radio'd in, and asked if a gal out my run way, was DOING a run today, cause maybe she'd better fire up her bus. She WAS doing a run. Nobody extra to cover runs. So, I had to do my best, lol. Well, I got out. I floored that thing from the get go... and was fine. I was out at 5:30am cleaning off my bus... and screwing around with all the other things. I even pulled my stop arm out, because I knew it would be icy. It came out, with some pulling, but at my first stop... didn't come out. So, I got out and pulled it again, while engaged. It worked the rest of the run. I hate this weather. I hate the wind. Its so cold outside, and I can't fiddle with things like tiny fuses with my gloves on.
Hubby was out all night the night before last night, and last night. Hes still not home.
So, Berryhill just phoned. They said there was nothing wrong with the incubator. So... now I have to pay shipping to get it back. WTH? Everything I did, that sucker didn't work. The last time they phoned me, someone said they put a new thermostat into it. So... nothing I could say would sway his decision. I have to pay to get it back. Good lord. Cost me $34 something to get it there in a hurry, so I could get it back sooner.
Life sucks sometimes.

Good Morning!
Watch your Tom... he may decide he wants to be frisky... and go over and try to mount her. Mine did that, and she got off her eggs, and went into the manger, on some old eggs, she laid in there previous. I hope her eggs didnt' get too cold, by the time I moved him out, and got her back on them.WLLady wrote:QR_BBPOST Well, you'll be looking in a couple times a day, and a chick won't starve in the first couple of days because they have all that yolk in their tummies. so don't worry sandy. you'll hear mom clucking away to the little ones...

sometimes the boys are dumb. And, they will get stepped on, with both. All they do is pace and strut, and show off to the girl, especially when they can see/hear other boys.

Good Morning!
Hi sandy, you shouldn't be hearing the chicks at night . I would say that you need a red light.SandyM wrote:QR_BBPOST Morning,
A lot of snow arrived last night. Lou & JT have been out since 10pm doing snow removal. When they get home I have a feeling they'll crash big time. All nighters are getting harder on the old man.![]()
Do baby chicks ever sleep? These little ones are in my master bath shower stall (that I don't use, too many bathrooms to clean) and they chirp and play all night. They have a white heat lamp, would a red one settle them down a little bit? They have started flying around and racing. Sooooo cute!
Anyone else forgot to write the date down when their broody sat on eggs? Well technically I did log it on my phone, but I updated my phone and the update removed all my notes that I hadn't backed up yet. Sooo...I have eggs due. Sometime in April. Ugh!
I'm picking up 25 week old Ameraucana chicks on Friday. I'm raising some until they are 6-8 weeks old and someone I know wants a few. Plus I'm sure the odds will fall to more cockerels, cause that's how my luck works, so I'm over shooting my end goals for pullets.
Finishing up coffee then heading out to shovel snow. On April 4th. Have a good one!
Cheers,
Sandy

Good Morning!
Good Morning, compared to BVF I am living life of leisure :)
Had a very productive day yesterday, bit of industrial design - cut of sleeve from old sweatshirt allowed me to do a one arm Pedicure/Manicure and a Brazilian, on 5 Col. Wyandotte ladies in preparation for some serious partying.
Hoping to set some eggs May 1st.......?????...need to stop drooling on my key board.
Sunny and crisp here, most snow gone, to make room for some more I presume.
Have a safe one!
