Looks like an injury to the ear canal. There was some swelling and on really close inspection abrasion on top of head too. Al may be right, aerial pred tried a grab? Maybe his boy or a hen whopped him? Treated with antibiotic drops and Metacam as an anti-inflammatory.

Owl's are scary man, sneak attack from the back, pow in the head. Very territorial, there are people who died under mysterious circumstances and now its been proven from owl attacks. Silent, at night, claws hit you in the back of the head. A couple of cross country skiers on trails at night. http://cryptomundo.com/cryptozoo-news/murder-owl/

From the article, "The literature is filled with people being attacked by owls if they are wearing fur (like raccoon or muskrat) on their heads.

The joke in wildlife management is that “owls don’t care if their squirrels are human.”

Even some outrageous theories may hold a kennel of truth. Still, it is merely a theory, without proof to the courts."

crazy Baron!

Kathy got nailed by an owl? I think? fur hat.... I think? maybe it was almost?

hahaha funny story from camp... a group of about 15 people sitting around the fire watching a cotton tail pick up all the seed from the bird feeders... from behind them and right above their heads they hear some crazy noise that scared them all... and WHAM! a great horned owl nails the cotton tail and takes off with it. there was a massive uproar and a bunch of screaming, I think some crying, and a couple guys just busting a gut. I think half the park came running to make sure everyone was ok.

that would have been a very impressive sight.

I felt what it felt like to be a chicken about to be nailed by a red tail. at the old place all the birds were going crazy then silence. I came out of the barn to a redtail in a kill dive. missed me by 5 feet. scared the CRAP right out of me but I think i scared it too. it missed its target but was successful the next day.

you win some you loose some. im really suprised I havent lost any birds to raptors here. they are all over and sit up on the high tension wires picking targets.

Man I LOVE raptors and will have a redtail one day.

Duck hunting 4 years ago out with a couple guides on Walpole Island. a duck was hit but made it away. me and the other guy who was there were like DARN MAN! we dont want to cripple a bird! the native guides were like just watch it... keep an eye on it... a raptor plucked it right out of the air! nothing gets wasted in nature. man were we ever relieved.

have a great night all!
