They are the noisest birds i have EVER seen....ever!
Just wondering
Shirley. Do they flap off like that every time you go to barn? Or is it mostly with strangers
Been a long time since I've had them so I don't really remember. Plus ours were strictly free range
Free range but did the return to a coop at night? I also read if raised with chickens they have a tendency to be more calm.
Sandy
No coop. They stayed in barn, hayshed or trees
Fox ate them all we think

I'm no cattle expert but did anyone notice the McDonalds ad extolling the virtues of Canadian beef with a cartoon of what appeared to me to be a couple of Holsteins?

SandyM wrote:QR_BBPOST Ok, I'd like to also make note that while I was at Shirley's (BVF) yesterday and previously at Doug The Chicken Mans those guinea fowls have not been screaming like everyone has warned me. I even talked to the ones at Shirley's and they didn't make a scene. Are y'all fibbing to me? :rulez:

So when I left Shirley's yesterday I put them back on my serious consideration list.
Well you should have been there on Saturday Sandy as they were pitching a fit when we were there.

Could hardly hear each other talking!!

They were just trying to give Sandy a false picture to lure her into getting some.

I think you are probably right Kenya
They knew Kathy, Paula and myself were not that "fond" of them. So they screamed at us
When Sandy went in thinking "hey they aren't as noisy as everyone says. I like them". They thought they should be in their best behaviour
Lol
Or like Kathy said. Lost their voices

Wait..... That's it! Sandy is the guinea whisperer! Sandy send me a pic of you so I can blow it up and put it on a sheet of plywood and test the theory! Hot damn if this works we can try it on other animals...we could make a fortune! Every time I go hunting there's always a blue jay squawking... Maybe it works on them too!

Oh Bert. The last thing nature needs is me plastered on plywood LOL!

I have a squinty eye while reading these comments wondering if y'all are pulling my leg STILL. Even at Dougs they were quiet and didn't have a freak out session.

Thanks again for the shoots WLLady. Got them in pots and improvised with skewers to allow them to vine up. A few need a couple of skewers so a clothes peg is holding the 2 skewers together. It's not pretty but it works. I could of taped them, but I know my limits with patience so clothes pegs it was. I can also adjust the skewers as they grow on the shorter shoots.

So I was reading yesterday about a guy in Saskatchewan that grows carrots year round. -20 and he's pulling carrots from the ground. Anyone else heard of this insanity?

There's a type of monkey that had never bred in captivity and no one could figure out why. A keeper was in the cage when he saw all the monkeys got "randy" when a park visitor came up and looked at the monkeys. The park visitor walked away and the monkeys stopped. The keeper ran after the man and found he was wearing a "cologne" and that sent the monkeys wild. So began a study of flowers and plants and how that affected breeding seasons. I recall this story from an episode of CBC Quirks and Quarks.
Sandy be glad your presence didn't create other behaviour in the guineas. roflmbo
