Good Morning!
What day did you put the eggs under your broody, Sandy?

Good Morning!
She went on the eggs Feb 23rd mid afternoon. When she didn't get out from the nesting box the next morning I slid 3 more under her on the 24th in the morning.

Good Morning!
You may have a bit of a staggered hatch. That can be a bit stressful on the hen having to tend new chicks and continue setting on the ones that haven't hatched yet, but in your case it's not a very big gap, so hopefully there will be some early hatchers from the later additions and some later hatchers from the early additions.
It should be starting any time now, with the first eggs you stuck under her. I have a feeling you'll be waking up to some little ones. Very exciting!

Good Morning!
No. Totally dropped the ball there. My first broody. I'm new FRF LOL. I was more concerned about her being bossed around by bossy pants and scooping her

Good Morning!
My silkie girl is so tolerant. She lets me check the eggs and handle any chicks she hatches and is such a good Momma. I candled the ones she was sitting on last week. I have to check the blue eggs again tomorrow, I could not see them clearly last week. I take away the duds cause I don't want any stinky explode'rs
Hope you see some signs of life soon!!

Good Morning!
I never candled my Broody's eggs when she set on them. I decided that I wanted it to be as natural as possible, and that she was the expert, not me.
You did not drop the ball, IMO - you trusted your hen to do the best job possible.

Good Morning!
I set 2cream legbar, 2americauna, and 3swedish flower chicken eggs on sunday....candled them today and ALL showing veins and a small blob in the center.....yippeeeee! off to a good start. I have a little brinsea but the turner doesn't work to its my job, hope it doesn't matter if the turning is a bit erratic, farm life has a way of making that the norm around here. We pulled the first time heifers into the barn and put the yearlings that will be bred this summer in the barnyard....where they stampeded to the gate, hit it as a group, and tore the chain busting out and making life interesting for the rest of the morning. All back in the barnyard but also all hanging at the gate, ( with 2 reinforcement chains).....keeping my heeler pup in the kennel or in the house till they simmer down, she enjoyed moving them a little too much and me thinks they had a little "help" stampeding and popping the gate chain.
I've been collecting olive green eggs to put in my bigger incubator... I have 9green, 2 blue, 6chocolate(maran) and several more flower hen eggs. Figured if I'm gonna have to turn the ones in the brinsea anyway why not fire up the other 'bator and see what hatches! You folks are inspiring!
Cleaned out the scrape alleys of both the steer barn and the cow barn and bedded....last time I think...will have to do complete cleanout next week. Sold two bulls over the weekend...yeah!! hubby agreed to keep them here till they want to turn them into the cows in June....boooo! was hoping to get some of that teenage testosterone OUT of the barn! Oh well, nite all, Hay
