I don't know anybody could put up with me and my chickens and goats and minihorse and quirks and foibles. (First one insisted we live in town, I shoulda known better but that learned me good.)

Happy Anniversary Martin & Kathy!!!

Love the stories I just read about the experiences :)

Personally, never married, never will be. Ever. Not my cup of tea. Free at heart, free in mind and free in spirit.

Happy Anniversary guys!!! :stars: :stars: :stars:

Nice warm day here, don't have to work tonight, so took the opportunity to fire up the tractor and start cleaning the equine poop out of the coverall. Poor old Cory the donkey is no more, farrier felt his feet were too bad to be repaired at his age, and I suspected as much. Really, REALLY angry with his former owners for letting them get so bad. He went peacefully, while all doped up on some nice drugs for his foot examinations, munching on a piece of apple. RIP, old boy. Never one to let anything go to waste, I had Richard call up someone he knows, and Cory's body was donated for coyote bait. I hate the thought, but I hated the thought of dumping the sweet old guy in a hole, even more. I would have eaten him myself, but for the drugs, ugh.

All four of my turkey girls are laying now, though Lacy and the one holdout BSW are only occasionally. KB, the "holdout" is the one with blue and pink marks on her back, do the marks signify anything I should know about before I commit to hatching her eggs? LOL
One of the turkeys gave me a horrible scare the other night, she almost choked to death on her food...inhaled it right down all the way. I was going for the knife, and again Richard tells me to just leave her be. I was sure she'd be dead shortly, coughing, shaking her head, tongue blue. She was so distressed she plopped out a shell-less egg right there. But within a few minutes she settled some, and has been getting better since. Still makes some funny noises and coughs when she gets excited, but hoping whatever's in there has come out or at least won't cause lasting problems.
Two of the geese are laying again, and the hens are seriously ramping it up too. For awhile around New Year, I thought I was going to have "the talk" with them about what happens (not really) to hens that don't lay, or who eat eggs! One of the hatchery Giants has started laying, 3 torpedo eggs from her now. grr. :idunno: Hope that sorts itself out, if not, she won't be used in any breeding projects. I haven't separated layers, bantams, giants and project birds yet, they're still all in together. Shoeless Joe was in with them all, but obviously not keeping the larger ladies happy, because I put FLBG (Giant rooster) in there last night, and the big black ladies threw themselves at him. The smaller hens are frightened by him, but his libido isn't big enough, and he's not agile enough, for me to worry about him hurting them. I hope. They have hidey holes to escape his attention if he tries to breed them, but so far he hasn't bothered to try. But, at least maybe I'll get some Giant eggs to hatch before this season gets much older.
Wedding story...we were married in 1992, after having two kids. Family was pressuring us, and Richard wanted to, so we did. It didn't CHANGE anything, so I didn't see the purpose, still don't. I was all for a civil wedding, Richard's father, being Catholic, insisted on a catholic wedding, we compromised and were married in a United church. Enough pomp and ceremony to appease the religious folks, but low-key and brief enough for me and the secular folks.
Loads of drama right from the get-go, as Richard's mother insisted on arranging everything right down to the bouquet, and insisted her daughter be in my wedding party, and Richards father wanted to spend time with his daughter and she wanted nothing to do with him (almost came to blows at the reception), and Richard's Uncle walked out of the ceremony before it began because the Reverend was black, and on, and on, and on, but it rolled off me. Didn't care. The wedding was for them, and for Richard, not for me, so I was unfazed by all the nonsense. Dinner was potluck buffet at the Legion, cheap as free LOL, and we got a DJ to MC for the price of a 40 of whiskey. It was a grand party, made me think the whole wedding nonsense was worth it :) The real star of our wedding was my son who was two 1/2 at the time, performing duties as ring bearer. Seriously and solemnly carried out his duty, and stood respectfully and silently for the WHOLE thing and even weathered the first half of the reception with grins and giggles.
Our honeymoon was at Canada's Wonderland--Richard had never been on a plane, so a short trip was in order for a first time, and I'd never been on a roller coaster. My inauguration was on a giant wooden monster I won't soon forget.

No marks were just IDs while sorting. The blue was a NO CULL, the pink was one to send to you. I had one of he turkeys inhale a piece of watermelon and I thought I would have to Heimlich it before it dislodged, greedy things!

Everyone in a huge rush to get out this am. Mr. Luckys libido clearly not hurt by the incident. The 2 with minor scrapes are back with the main flock, they just wanted to be out with everyone! The remaining 3 are still problematic but it looks like the splash pullet will be OK.

Morning folks! what a gorgeous morning. up before the sun today, and the 5 planets and moon were beautiful! straight line from south east to west across the sky...mercury, venus, saturn, mars and jupiter http://earthsky.org/astronomy-essential ... rn-mercury (for reference). Absolutely gorgeous. on my way over to do chores at the farm we are taking care of and nearly took out an owl with the truck. don't know how i missed it. skidding with the brakes full on the gravel and well, all i could think is "huh.....owls have fuzzy down on their bums too" LOL. of all the nonsense to think....of course they do! they're BIRDS! anyhoo, owl lives another day, and i didn't have a complete heart attack, so it's all good. the horse was still upright and all the cats were alive, so all in all, a pretty good morning.

love hearing the wedding stories! we survived another anniversary....one of those nasty meat chickens i will never raise again (i say now) done in the crockpot for dinner....OMG it was yummy. :dinner: and that made me think....maybe it is worth...wait, shush up...don't think that! maybe....um..... :decision: ha ha. i really don't want to raise those things again. the poo....OMG. and the smell of them. i would HAVE to tractor them if i do....because i am NOT keeping those in a barn ever again. but my goodness it was tasty. and then homemade brownie for dessert. yum.

guess i should check the sap buckets today....sure seems to be perfect syrup making weather right now. Maybe later, with the ATV.
happy groundhog day!
