Good Morning!

Post by Bayvistafarm » Thu Sep 22, 2016 1:24 pm

Sounds busy OC! Have fun!

Well, I just finished cutting grass... started yesterday noon... cut until about 3:50pm... hopped on the bus.... and then thought I wouldn't go back on until tomorrow.

So today.... did chores, and started cutting about 9:30am... and just finished at 1:20 pm. The lawn mower won't shut off... so I have no idea how to stop it. Its a Kubota Z18 zero turn... and when you shut off the key... the gauges go down and it sounds a bit different... so I pulled it down to where I wash it... and washed the deck.. put it up in preparation to put the pins in and crank the thing so I can get under the deck.... but it still wouldn't shut off... and even when I engaged the mower and stood up... it still kept going. So, its running down by the barn. Its got a lot of diesel in it.. it will probably still be idling tomorrow, before it runs out of fuel... or even the next day!

Gary is going to see if he can stop it. I talked to my brother in law from Galers... and I think he gave Gary some tips. Stupid thing. I want to wash it... and get it put away... and feed the birds.... and maybe sit 5 minutes or so before my bus run.

P.A. day tomorrow... ya hoo! But Dr. appointment in the morning, and who knows how long this is going to take... or how I will feel afterwards.... hope my weekend won't be ruined.

Good morning all! Bvf that mower run out of gas yet? Lol

Busy day already....both dogs up to the vets...blood work. One to check for cancer markers after surgery and other to check liver cause hes old and needs arthritis drugs. Poor thing. He loves running and fetch and is totally broken after. Getting older sucks. And i am sitting drinking tea waiting on drugs for my back because holding a 112 pound furball on a leash when the vet walks in didnt go over well (he tries to run for the door every time) with it this morning...sigh. almost ended up on the floor....so. plans to put in the posts for the turkey pens are on hold until a bit later i think.

Most of my moulting girls are finally laying again! Yes! I put the lights on a timer in the barn to get them back to 12 hours. Feathers are growing and laying has picked up. Loving the cooler weather today too.

The last of the indian corn got picked yesterday. Gorgeous stuff

Need to check on the sweet potatoes. And then pull up a pile of strawberries and pull out most of the tomato plants. And generally clean up. Maybe though o will start with tensioning the electrics...the do to list is quite long lol.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!

Awesome day. Oldest Grandson had a sleep over. We went to a local corn maze, then to his first ever skating lesson. I thoroughly enjoined watching a group of 3 to 8 year olds first time every on skates. Then off to the fair to watch his Dad( my kid) drive in his first demo derby. Grandma is back home and needs to recuperate with a cup of tea before chores get done. I hope you all are enjoying this lovely weekend.

Morning

Nice and cool this morning! Sitting on the front porch. Ava and Drake are having their morning marrow bones and I'm having my coffee.

Got into my beehives yesterday. Phew! Thank goodness I have Shirley on 'speed dial'. I must of consumed at least 2 hrs of her day. Looks like one of my hives is operating without a queen. And that would be the hive with a bazillion drones and not so happy to see me. Switched some frames from good hive to bad hive, scrapped their mess off the tops, took a level off because it was virtually empty. Frustrating!! Not sure what happened. So hopefully they make a new queen with the frame I put over. I'm going to be back in there today to make sure I did things right, and have my reference book on standby for reference. Give BVF a holiday lol!

Buns is getting his winter coat and looks like a Michelin bunny. So cute! Hope it stays cool from this point onwards. I've been ready for summer to end since .... Well since 1980. Each year it gets harder and harder to tolerate. Humidity being the killer.

Well, I'm waiting for my pullets to start laying. They're almost 6 months. 1-3 eggs a day isn't holding us over very well. Can't wait to start getting duck eggs.

Took on another company's books to add to my workload. Just in case I thought I would have a moment to breathe, I sure fixed that. I'm so far behind with being down for the count for almost 6 weeks that playtime is now over. Back to being very disciplined and getting stuff done. I won't be on PTO as much. Once I'm on here, I get reading and before you know it an hour has passed or more!

I also made the excutive decision to not go to Mt. Forest. Although I'd love to see what all the hype is, it's just such a long drive to not plan on buying or selling anything and time should be better spent.

Well, I'm off. Need to get ingredients to make zucchini relish today so I can can it tomorrow and time to put some more herbs in the dehydrator, pull the carrots, pick the last of the peppers and cut some kale for ducks and buns.

Have a great day everyone!!!

Good Morning!

Good morning everyone. What a lovely weekend!! I am soooo loving the cooling weather.
waffles for breakfast. Yum. Now that i have taught myself how to make decent ones...lol
put 4 posts in for the turkey pens yesterday. Today will be the windbreak wall north of the barn-thats 3 posts lol. Sure is much fun figuring out how to dig 4 foot holes without leaning over and standing back up. That is the motion killing my back...so i dig the first 1.5 feet standing but leaned over and the rest kneeling on the ground. It actually works quite well! Once hubby was back home yesteday he carried the posts over. I like the new pressure treated wood. Its brown instead of green and will look so much better! When its done it will be 3 runs 2 smaller for pairs and one larger pen for grow outs and kids etc. Looking forward to having it up. I got some deer fencing for an awesome price at my local feed store its 8 feet tall...and i have some tarp to go over the top. Yay!

Had to fill about 2 inches i to the pool yesterday. No biggie. Half hour with the garden hose lol. Loving it. Really truly. Getting some acrylic to go on the walls to protect from splashing but we havent even gotten any water out of the pool yet except for where we get in and out....so. putting some waterproof LED lights in....and the skirting....then figuring out what flooring to put in....for later. Its just concrete slab floor right now.

Such a beautiful weekend! The stars last night were amazing and we saw a uhuge shooting star in the north east!! Pretty long green one...went across 1/4 of the sky. Finally finished burning our pool packing materials - cardboard boxes by the dozens and the wood from the shipping crate. Now k have my atv trailer back. YES!

Hope the bees do okay sandy! Glad you have bvf you can call too! A hive is on my list for after surgery....by a year or so. My hubby wanted to have bees, we did for a bit but lost the hives one winter...a very very cold awful winter. But i would like to have them again someday.
good luck keeping up / getting caught up at work too....
goatgal-skating already? Yay that means winter is coming!!!

Have a great sunday everyone!

Kathy are you using a clam shovel? would one even work in your sandy soil? im so glad I have one of these bad boys! with longer handles you wouldnt need to bend over at all. these have been shortened a couple feet over the years.

have a great day all!

Lol no just using a shovel....my neighbour has a clam shovel we could borrow-and another awesome one its a hand auger - put the point on the ground and turn and it drills in exactly 1 inch bigger diameter than a 6 inch fence post!! Used em both in the past to put all the fencing in. I cant throw downwards with my back so the shovel is actually easier i can push but not throw....and we are going 4 feet down. Only takes 5 minutes to make the hole...just have no get up and go this weekend lol. We have a list of jobs and i think i am mired down in where to start lol

They are great tho!!

Just put 20 leeks into the freezer. My hands and the house stink like garlic. Yum. Will make wonderful soup in the winter!!!
