Good Morning!
oh yes I found myself standing right in the middle of a thick patch of poison ivy and then another 5 mins later, didnt learn the first time. im sooooooo happy I decided to wear my camo... pants n all... I had shorts on just prior to leaving. so far so good. im very lucky. I've had it 4-5 times in my life but the last time came with the 7 year itch... crappy rash on the bottom of my legs all summer long. yup I took my cloths and boots off outside, came in in my boxers, grabbed the dish soap n jumped right in the shower. feeling lucky. I got a bottle of round up and my dirtbike running... guna grab that salt block and head back there n take care of it and put the block out. its just a little 125 honda clone but almost just as reliable, I look real funny on it but I dont care... its mine!

Good Morning!
Parsley is finished....only picked about half and dutifully relocated all the swallowtail caterpillars to the stuff i didnt pick. Now have a full jar of dried parsley!!! Candied jalapenos are heat processing right now....apparently need to sit 4 weeks before optimum flavor or something. So. They will go to the cold storage room. Still lots of mint and oregano to go. But need to let my cheapo dehydrator cool down for a little bit first.

Good Morning!
morning folks!
another nice day out! foggy! wow foggy. i guess with all the rain on saturday it's expected. had a nice little bonfire last night again, and then slept like a baby with the windows open and 13C. LOVE this weather!
I'll find out on the 30th if the crank cocking aid fits my crossbow....fellow is coming down from toronto to windsor and i'll meet him and see if it fits. We have measured the crap out of it, so.....fingers crossed. if so, i'm hopeful to get out for deer on the weekend of october 1! if not...well, i might get out, but will have to sit with hubby, and listen to the snoring. LOL (although i might contribute some of my own snoring LOL).
i put half my parsley into the cupboard yesterday. i only grew 3 plants, maybe 4...and the stuff is up to my knees easily, and at least 2 feet wide! covered in swallowtail caterpillars right now, so i left the cats out there to eat and grow....i'll get the rest of the parsley in a little bit-just before first frost happens or so. Still haven't checked on the sweet potatoes-pretty sure there's a skunk digging them up....sigh. but i have enough non-sweet potatoes is i need.....both my 2 remaining onions are toast. sigh. they never bulbed at all. oh well. brussel sprouts are doing awesome, broke the tops off last weekend and the sprouts are growing nicely. leeks are doing great. this coming weekend i might bother to make a leek and potato soup. and accidentally throw in some butternut squash
YUM. had butternut for dinner last night. also yummy, in the oven with brown sugar and cinnamon. Fall is the best! BVF, that indian corn is amazing! i'll have to post some photos now that it's drying, so pretty. made 14 jars of candied jalapeno peppers, then discovered the plants are STILL producing, and there's MORE out there. yikes! and more tomatoes. MANY more tomatoes.
hm. Sunflowers are ready for seed picking. threw a head to the boys and well, they were scared....they still haven't figured it out. i'll probably take some up to the loft and put them into the pens for the girls up there. eagerly awaiting eggs from my hatched girls from the spring...
i love my tractor. and my husband. (not necessarily in that order!). moved the 330 foot 8 foot tall fence roll out of the truck without having to do anything! LOL. it will become the fence for the turkey pens. lumber is coming today YAY! 9 posts to put in, 3 doors to frame, then the wire goes up. Then we will use the left over wire to screen in a nice trellis to shade the picnic table in the summer while we are waiting for the trees to grow-the trees we haven't actually planted yet....LOL. i think i want a nice sugar maple, or some apple trees....probably go with a nice sugar maple a little further away and then the apples closer....and not in the field with the horses....ted is eying the one apple tree..stretching as far as he can, but they're out of reach because his nasty owner put up this zapping fence around it. LOL.
and the wind screen for the barn doors will go in this coming weekend too....those 2 jobs are the last biggies for this year. then it's just a bit of landscaping, moving some plants around and stuff....it's really coming together since we took down the driveshed and old barn! have to get some seed down soon on the spot where those buildings were....get the grass growing.
hope everyone had an awesome weekend, and has a great day! OH and don't forget to vote for the october photo of the month! another extremely hard choice to make, all the photos are simply awesome!

Good Morning!
Just got home from getting a brand new windshield in my car. The truck driver who broke it last Friday was an ass, but the guy he works for was awesome. He apologized and paid for the damage. It is a nice feeling when someone does the right thing. Makes me feel like there's hope for humanity still. I wandered around town for a few hours while I waited for my car and got a very pretty vase at a second hand shop. All in all an awesome day and it's not even half over. Have a good one you all.

Good Morning!
Morning,
Busy start to the day. Neighbour knocked on door and said my rooster was at her house. I said really? My guys are still in the pen (it's 6:30). I take a quick peek, nope my little 3 month old legbar cockerel is in the pen. I let everyone out and walk to her house because maybe it's a chicken and she thinks it's a rooster? Yup. It's a rooster. Not mine, but someone's. Looks like he's been through hell and back, but won't let anyone near him. we put out a dog crate, I put some feed in. If she sees him go in she'll try and lock him in. Haven't heard from her so I'll assume he's either hanging around at her place or on the road again.
Got all the waterers, feeders bleached. Love that squeaky cleanness you get after a good hardy, chemical induced clean
well, sometimes you just gotta. Bleached the
tarp, roosts and tidied the coop up.
Gave silkie mom a little dust when she was off her eggs. She gets the whole pen and coop to herself to feed, drink, chicken yoga and walk around each morning. She's so tolerant. I take her off the eggs, lock it down for her and she has a good 10 -15 min break then heads back in to sit on her eggs. I keep meaning to candle the eggs. Each night I go to lock up coops and I think shoot forgot flashlight, meh tomorrow's another day. This is why I don't have an incubator lol.
I wanted to get into the beehives today but it's cloudy and there are a lot of bees just hanging around the hives. Maybe if the clouds break this afternoon I'll get in, if not, tomorrow is another day. :)
Getting a few chickens (frozen) from my feed supplier at a fantastic price! He raises them and feeds the same feed (obviously) non-GMO, soy free etc. Feed delivery is Sept 30th. Maybe if they are yum then I can get from him and save a lot of $$$ because where I get my chicken now is definitely costly! This is basically half price.
Lost my blue Swedish duckling. Ugh. Dumb cats. Brought it to the door for me yesterday, I opened the door for my morning coffee and coon drops it on the front porch. She needs a good swift kick in the butt these days, chipmunks are taking over and the moles are destroying the lawn. Oh but be lazy and kill a duckling. Chipmunks are on the deck stealing my grape tomatoes and she is sleeping on the swing, literally 5 steps from her. I swear, I'm going to impose a hunger strike on her one of these days.
Well, breakfast/lunch is done, better head to the dungeon (office is in basement) and get things done.
Did I mention there's a huge incubator for sale on kijiji? Baaaaahaaaaaa!!! Addicts!
Have a good one! Cheers

Good Morning!
Good morning everyone! wow, no good morning yesterday? no posts? hm.....hope everyone actually did have a good day yesterday.
Farrier bright and early this morning....well, before the sun actually got up. lol. sleepy horses....not quite sure what was going on, but enjoyed a carrot each after the fact. done for another month.
nice morning too. these cooler mornings make me think about deer season. LOL. and it is the first day of autumn today! Trees are starting to change here here, mostly the big old maple trees. saw some wild turkeys with at least 2 hatches of poults and a couple of nice deer this morning too on my travels. Busy weekend coming up, vet for the dogs - both need blood work done, and pen building and wind break building and finishing the skirting and cover on the pool. loving the pool....sure nice to have a chance to tell gravity to shove off once a day.
definitely need more coffee, way too much computer stuff to do today! we just implemented a new backup system for data from work and well....um....i discovered a new class of "nerd" that speaks in a totally different language and i'm the guinea pig to try out the system. and i don't think i understood 2/3 of our conversation yesterday LOL. So now you know, there's more than 1 kind of nerd in the world!
hope everyone has an awesome thursday!

Good Morning!
Oh heck that sounds like when I was coopted onto the Y2K team. Actually it was fun as a real end user for the systems.

Good Morning!
Good morning!
Spend the day yesterday moving furniture dusting cobwebs in all the forgotten corners in preparation of son # 2 flying in from Yukon to help celebrate "significant" anniversary and overlap with a visit from son # 3 &family, coming for a visit from posting in Indonesia, Thank god son # 1 has his own local bed :)
Somehow could have used more then a few days warning.
So time to slaughter the "fatted calf" err I mean chickens, and figure out who is going to be sleeping where.
Grass looks great in the large chicken runs, love this time of year, everything smells so fresh and fragrant even the leaves on the ground.
Dug up some Jerusalem artichokes and moved to a new bed so the deer can't get to them, see if they will recover from the constant trimming.
Time for a second cup of coffee and communing with the chickens.
Have a good one!
