Its funny how some broodies, chickens or otherwise are so focused on the nest, that they DON'T hardly eat or drink. My turkey girl will actually be LAME, when I go in and push her off... shes not been on her feet for so long. She even POOPED those nice broody ones IN the nest twice!! BAD girl.
Right now, my red girl is sitting. 3 years old I think... got from Brebis...maybe 4? with 2 Toms.... one is with her, and shes committed. Didn't write down the date tho. Ugh. I gave her some Royal eggs.... she may have lay'd total 10 eggs this winter/spring. Getting older.
Got my squash planted, peppers in..... and weeded and watered for two days. Everything I planted needs constant watering, from the flowers to the veggies. Only those direct seeded haven't been watered. Amazing how my beans and cucumbers come up in dust. They ARE looking a little peak'ed tho.... the bean leaves are kind of that crinkled shape... and pointed upwards in prayer. Maybe water them today. Although its FREEZING out. Seems to go from 30C to 20C with that ever present wind, just to freeze me. I like it HOT. Humid not so much, but HOT. So there Sandy. You must appreciate today, lol.
New calf this morning. Red heifer, out of a cow we had for a long time. Shes gone... got jumped on last summer, or was it two summers ago... sheesh, time flies....must be two, because this heifer is two, and she was just a baby when the cow went down...... anyhow, bred her charolais... nice calf... but its trying to suck her brisket... bull must be.... and every time it does manage to get to her side, she does the dosie do, like new heifers do sometime. They both aren't too bright. I seen this at 6:30am this morning, and as of 8:30am, it still hasn't managed it. I will have to keep an eye, and maybe offer it a bottle of packaged colostrum. At least it will GET some, and maybe by then, it will be stronger, smarter... and mama will have settled down abit.
Don't like calving heifers particularly.
Blacksmith is coming today for the nags. I don't want them anymore. Long past the horse stage. I used to breathe/live for horses...... but don't have time to ride, or stuff... but Melissa likes them, they've always been here.... 2 born here, and now 14 and 17... and the most PERFECT horse, and you just don't get rid of horses like that..... but Melissa is pregnant, due July 7th.... going to nurse.... and honest to GAWD, I have NO idea when she will find the time to do anything with them THIS summer...................ugh. Not to mention they are a ROYAL pain in the butt where they are... in the 'pasture' with ALL the implements/wagons... hayshed with hay/straw thats needed daily, (although when he does go out for hay, he brings a few out for about 3 days)... and they like to run away, now that they know they can.....
Opening and closing the gate for someone that idles thru it with the tractor infuriates me beyond belief.
I've ranted enough. Time to go out and see about this calf. Have a great day!
