Re: 2023 veggie garden
Thank you very much Jaye!
Man I just spent hours covering our gardens due to imminent frost! Supposed to be -2°C tonight! Grrrrr! Its a good thing we didnt get everything planted as I likely would not have been able to get it all covered.

Re: 2023 veggie garden
I remember when we moved in to this area about 45 years ago a local farmer (BTW the only one who had a veg garden ) never put out his seedlings until first week in June, we thought that was crazy..... and then there were some springs when even the garden centers lost their seedlings because they were ready for the long weekend onrush.

Our hose froze last night. Not the tap though.

Re: 2023 veggie garden
Yeah, thats what we normally do too OC, not because of the weather but because we finally can. In our area it's usually safe to plant after mothers day. This frost was an anomaly and we were ahead of the game this year.
We have suffered some losses but overall everything looks pretty good.
We're very concerned about the potatoes.

I went to top up chicken waters quickly before leaving for work and found the hose frozen. So I unscrewed it and found that the tap was frozen as well

Oh my. I hope it thawed out today with the milder temps, and that your hose didn't burst anywhere.

Re: 2023 veggie garden
Well here's the other new garden. 22x80 feet. Lots of room for buckwheat, hulless oats, corns with there 2 other sisters (beans and squash or pumpkins), lentils, whatever else I can't remember. Haha. It was mostly new ground and 2 or 3 year old gardens. It took me about 12 hours and 2 goes at it. And oh, lots of breaks.

One more thing, or I guess 2 more things... I forgot about the tomatoe beds! The one with the mint is like 12 different indeterminate varieties and the other is like 4 or more varieties of cherry tomatoes.
