I think it's called assertive, at least that's what we call it here :)

When I did some training at Bayer they wanted to teach people to be more assertive. I was told NOT to be more assertive. Still don't understand.

roflmbo

Yeah, I get that ;)

I was part of role playing...whatever, how to negotiate a compromise ...
A supposed employee, ME, who booked a day off well in advance for an important function, was told by her Employer it was being canceled and she had to come to work!!!!

Employer, - we really need you working on that day..
ME, but I booked a day off..
Employer , Sorry, but you can't have it..
ME, OK, I quit.

I was told that is not a good way to negotiate, I thought since it got me what I wanted it was an excellent way :)

The idea is always at the back of my mind... For example, flexible hours, if I don't have flexible hours then my life becomes difficult, why not work somewhere else with flexible hours?

My first job. First day. Engineering firm. I was given an internal memo with a dress code. Women wear dresses, heels, etc. and once again I started questioning my decision to go into engineering. Why is the President of my company dictating how I dress? I thought, I can go out tonight and buy a dress and all the other listed woman accessories or I can go to work in pants and a shirt and lawyer up if required. I decided on the second. I figured I should break the rules and fight for all women that followed... I never needed to hire a lawyer. I caused a mutiny. I was the only female engineer but many support staff were female. The head of accounting complained why Lolo can wear pants and she needs to where a dress. The president said...Don't you like wearing dresses? She said no... They are uncomfortable... Our president wrote a new memo stating that everyone should dress in comfortable clothing... this was a large Toronto firm with 600+ engineers now called exp.
