New birds are here...

Yes BR I've made up all sorts of reasons not to sell to someone. If I get "that feeling" I don't.

New birds are here...

As asked I have attached some pics. Got two more eggs both in the nest box but haven't seen anyone on the roosts. Took them out the ultimate treat around here...left over macaroni. They actually went for it instead of huddling against the back wall. Tried to get some close up shots of their red patches so tell me what you think.

I wonder if there are a couple of things going on.
1. stress moult because of lack of care, poor conditions etc.
2. picking
I would also check very carefully for mites using the scotch tape around the fingers.

My first thought was mites too but none of them had raised scales on their legs when I looked at them closely. Definitely will give them a shot of Ivermectin just in case. I hope it is just a stress moult...that would be the easiest thing to fix!

Someone asked about breeds.. I would say Red Sex Link, Black Sex Link, Columbian Rock x, New Hampshire x for the ones with the brown neck and chest?

Looks like he'd tried to care for them - nowhere near as bad as I was expecting.

Want an Ameraucana or white chantecler rooster? I got a few that didn't get to the stewpot. (Free)

well I dont think they look all that bad. nothing some TLC can't fix... you should have seen the conditions the rsl's were in at the old place when we moved in... there was apx 30 in a 12x12 coop. one window and no outdoor access... an avg of a foot of manure on the ground n no bedding. they all had mites n worms. fed scratch on the ground. hardly any water... it was terrible. BUT I got them all fixed up, outdoor access... culled a few n split some up. once all done n cleaned up they really filled in and started pumping out the eggs. they were 6 years old.

Looks like feather picking to me, some birds are just more prone to it. With more room to get away they should get better.

Hey they are not that terrible, couple of weeks and some sunshine and Bob's your Uncle! Their combs are bright and they look alert.

I agree - not that bad, and they all look bright and alert. I'm thinking that some blukote may be their friend while they are filling in again.;-)
