Lucky you! Our beans are still tiny. We've had some cukes, and the first cherry tomatoes today :)

wishing on more rain here. we got a little bit today, but the ground is still dry 1cm down. like parched dry. my corn is going brown in places. not good. oh well. hoping tonight will bring a bit more.
I determined a while ago that it looked like i was losing chickens from the first pen in the barn. which is odd, because they can't get out of the pen, and they have an outdoor run as well. when i discovered that my wonderful yellow lab, has figured out how to open the outside run door so she can snack on the tasty treats left behind! so now i have at least 3 chickens sitting on eggs in the hay (3 that i know about...there are 3 others missing from the head count). best guestimate is it should be 3 weeks sometime in the next few days...lol. I have starter, and an extra waterer....lol. they will have to free range because all the pens are busy. and i discovered that my turkeys don't really like chickens, when one chicken managed to get into the turkey pen. she's back with the chickens now.....
the garden is busting at the seams. the pumpkin is headed to the bee yard full speed ahead now having crawled through the fence. The cucumbers and the hubbard squash are duking it out for the water sprinkler post in the middle of the garden. i have no shortage of weapons (aka zucchinis) that are seriously 4 pounds a piece.....great zucchini bread candidates. Or weapons against bears and breakins LOL. I managed to randomly gift one to someone that visited me on friday...mostly because i also gave them a nice head lettuce and 2 cucumbers, and felt badly that my tomatoes weren't ready yet, so substituted a zucchini. And a head of broccoli. and my neighbour dropped by needing something for her cooking that i gave her, and in return i got a pint of fresh picked blueberries. i definitely came out ahead on that one! they're so good. so dinner tonight is salad with raspberries, blueberries, fresh green beans from the garden, lettuce, cucumber and zucchini and the 4 cherry tomatoes that i found that were ripe!
and there will be zucchinis to all the birds in the barn tonight. my chickens and turkeys love them. they pick all the seeds first, and then go to town on the flesh until theres just the thinnest skin left. good chickens.

Just hoping that one of the young poults makes it to morning. Brought him in to cool off he was so wobbly and upset. Cool water under his wings and standing him in some cool water. Put him back in the coop tonight.

Yes he does. he is over the heat issue I feel. It looks like the heat hit him because he was stressed from another problem. Almost waddling. They are terribly clumsy birds and sometimes in all the excitement they can get stepped on. I have him on meloxicam for pain and inflammation in case he has some spinal issues. I'll see if I get any improvement in the next few days. He isn't getting picked on or kept off the food, he's a nice little chunk. Time will tell.
