Birds in my garden
So broke down and got a new bird feeder, mainly to entertain the new "bird dog"
as @Killerbunny knows I call every bird a Finch, just spent 1/2 hour with my trusted Peterson Field guide, still not sure... a Vireo ?? there was a little disconcerting drool at Addy's lips

AMerican goldfinch.Winter plumage.Wing bars, dumpy shape, short beak - Oh and we have a bunch just turned up here too!
Vireos are a slender body shape and a longer more pointed beak.

Funny, American Goldfinch was my first guess, wasn't sure when the breeding color on males comes in, and didn't think they were all MRS , and you set me on a road to doubting myself with my wrong House finch identification so I bow to your knowledge,

Vireos are in South America right now. In the summer, vireos are at the top of the trees.

Lucky birds, I just got inventive because @Killerbunny caught me at calling every bird I don't know Finch, which around here makes me 75% of the time right should have stuck to my system :)

hey, what are friend for anyway ?We on the bird feeder so far, 2 white breasted and 2 red breasted Nuthatch, and two Downy woodpeckers, they do seem to be coming inn pairs, perhaps dating? ....and of course any number of finches...
I can hear Blue jays, but haven't seen any yet, Thank goodness.
OK, now I see 2 something biggish, back to Peterson...

For the first time in years we have hundreds of snow buntings at the feeder. Of course the regular sparrows, juncos and chickadees. Blue jays, a pair of cardinals and the odd starling that never left. We have also had 2 downy woodpeckers-sadly a touch confused and hammering on our hydro pole... Um. And a pair of pigeons and several mourning doves. The sparrows are already building nests in the barn.

Here in NC, we have beautiful bluebirds, mockingbirds, cardinals, jays, woodies, (returning) robins and more - probably finches! In addition, we have turkey vultures, which we feed with scraps of chicken leftovers from the local poultry place.
