Same here. I hate these cold nights it's always a worry with the top coops because the youngest are 5 and the oldest ones coming up on 8! You never know what you'll find.

Happy New Year everyone! Today there is sun, but it is really windy and the wind chill is -41. We have had wind chills between -40 and -51 since before Christmas. It sucks. It is supposed to warm up a lot starting Monday. A lot of the snow cover that was in my yard has blown away. I may lose perennials again. I only have 12 chickens in my barn (still 5 Seramas in the house). The 3 old Ameraucanas will be 9 in June. The youngest ones are 5 this year. I'm considering moving, but don't know where to. I really don't want to live in the city.

Well yesterday I just didnt feel like doing anything. So the neighbor called and I went over and we dehorned a goat. I know how, have the right wire saw and all. But I really dislike that job. Blood and the goat yelling in pain. I really wish everyone would disbud their goat babies at a week old or so. Much less stress on the goat and on the people.

That is my excuse for no article yesterday. Will see if I get one today.

Pretty snappy and clear here this morning. Got to go do chores. Good morning everyone.

Good morning,
Making baked beens for lunch, since it seemed like a good day to check the pantry for things about to expire, we will be eating some interesting things this week but watching the food prices rise with frightening speed, it's time to use things we collected last winter.
BTW interesting bit, found out how to stop beens from being the "musical" food, do not use the water in which the beens have been soaked and cooked, use soup stock instead. It actually works.

Bit of lovely clean snow, didn't think I was EVER going to be happy to see a new snow cover in January, apparently we have half of the usual snow , no wonder it has been very easy to keep steps and patio clean.
We may be having the rest of it delivered on Monday in one fell swoop.

Good day!! Its another cold one, but sunny like yesterday! NO wind. Or not as strong. Took the kids to the waterfall today, and a couple days ago. So much fun. There WAS water running that we could see a few days ago, but most of the water was solid on top, but you could still hear it underneath.

Son Dave took some pictures with his camera Dec. 24th... one is not very clear.... but a deer got smucked on the tracks.. and 2 coyotes were cleaning it up. The other is of the birdfeeder in the bush I fill occasionally for the birds, and they love it!! They will eat out of your hand now.

Its so nice back there!!!!! I topped up all the birdfeeders here too, in time for the storm. Hope its a snowday tomorrow.... NOT looking forward to cleaning the bus off... in the middle of a snowstorm, and managing those hills. Definitely will be running late for the runs tomorrow, if it pans out the way they are predicting now. At least EAST of us, will be getting the brunt of it. Stay safe everyone out that way!!

Took a trip to Paisley to see my dad... take him groceries and a friend came along for the long drive. We then drove to Owen Sound to take in a missions store... they have GREAT cheap books.... and then back to Walkerton to see my mom in the LTC home. I put nearly 500 km on the vehicle yesterday. When we got home, I had enough time to do chores, and go to Daves place, where Jess bought take out for Gary and I (I've been babysitting kids for both Dave and Melissa... and online schooling SUCKS)!!. Trying to keep the kids focused and sitting is sure painful, lol. I've done NO woodsplitting this year so far!! With driving 5.5 hours in the bus everyday, its hard to get out there, set up, and going to get a decent amount done, before I have to quit again! But then I have to babysit Maren 2 days a week also. IF we drive tomorrow, going to leave her here with Gary to watch, so I don't have to worry about her and problems on the bus. Hopefully he can make sure she keeps out of trouble for 45 minutes, until Melissa gets here. She sure is busy. Heres a baby picture of her, and a picture I took of her back feeding the birds about a month ago.

Melissa bought a filly last April (end of April)... and has been working with her non stop, (halter broke... a little broke to lead... NO feet handling etc... and needing groceries bad) and she sent me pictures of when she got her, to just a week ago or so. Shes really grown!! She will be 2 years old in July.

The other day (its been cold out), they guys threw down straw, loaded the stock trailer, and delivered it to a local dairy farmer.... and the guinea's went out. I did NOT know this. I came down later.... 7:30pm, and door shut... but when I went inside NO guinea's!! I started looking up and around and listening to them. Finally found them all minus one.. my pretty white girl.... sitting on the fence beside the barn where the calves go in and out. (they were locked in... birds couldn't get inside even if the wanted to).

I managed to chase them off the fence in the dark... and herd them towards the light up and around the hill to where I had slid the big sliding door open. Makes me so mad. Course, when I yelled at Gary, he said no one did it on purpose. Course, I had to say, anything that doesn't make any difference to you, you wouldn't care about it anyhow. So, then we were both mad. Ugh. Sad I lost the white girl. No telling how she became lost... maybe an owl got her sitting like a beacon on that fence.... or something got her earlier. Too cold to have spent the night outside anyhow, glad I found most of them!! Down to 8....

Sorry Farrier... sold 10 just laying well pullets about a month ago or so.... some laid light brown eggs, but most were blue/olive. I wished I had known you were looking!! I was getting way too many eggs, and only 2 customers, and my kids. I have 15 left I think.... well, 3 of them are two ugly crossbeaks (coming 3), and an E0... nice girl.... I kept back from the Auction. I don't like taking defected birds....even tho they lay ok.... not as good as the younger girls tho

Well, time to get to the bathroom. I've vacuumed and washed the floors. Ugh. HATE cleaning.

Got a nice big fat roaster chicken in the oven... and brought up some potatoes from the cold room downstairs. Some are sprouting!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ugh.
