Re: Good Morning!
It’s been so hot the past few days. I think we managed to get a tiny bit of rain last night, but everything is already pretty dry.
I’ve had a quail decide to try the broody thing. I let her because she’s adorable, and I’d like to see if she can do it. After about a week, one of the other girls has sort of stolen her nest, which has her (and me!) a little unsure of what to do. I wonder if I start another nest beside it, they will both sit? It’s so uncommon for it to happen in the first place from what I hear...
This is the first broody girl This is the little scene stealer This is just a bunch checking out some dandelions I gave them, which lasted maybe 10 minutes...

Re: Good Morning!
PHOTO CONTEST PHOTO!!! LOL
good morning all! i think it's still morning. so glad it's a long weekend. SO SO GLAD. If any of you have any extra rain to spare, please send it. we have had 1mm in the last 3 weeks. it's desperately dry and my grass is dying already and its MAY. the horse is back on hay.....clean bill of health for her. Even the vet said better to not move her or even get another animal, she's blind in one eye, and cataracts in the other, wearing a fly mask full time to cut the sun so she can see a bit better around the cataracts. Her fallen out tooth healed perfectly and she's officially the vet's oldest clyde patient. but in good shape otherwise. starting her on previcox for the arthritis pain...just waiting on blood tests to make sure it's okay.
The garden is almost in. and the annuals and perennials will also be going in today. I think we are going to cut down our one plum tree at the end of this year-it's full of black knot...we knew the day would come, but it looks like there are some plums this year, so we'll let it do it's thing and cut it down in the fall. We are thinking about going with chums next, since the blackknot is everywhere here. We've been pruning and anti-fungal spraying and dormant spraying and it's just not enough. I also had to BTK the new planted maple trees against leaf roller caterpillars this year! argh! they're looking better today, although it also helps that it's not 35C and bright sun today too.
My little chicks are growing up-2 boys and one is a beautiful silver welbar and the other is a nice rhodebar. they'll be my breeders going forward. The other 4 chicks are 3 girls and a boy! 4 mixes for sure......and we have yet another escapee hen sitting on eggs.....no clue where she got out of. mike is having a great time with his own girl, and very very happy again. and my turkey "easter" is down for the count on a nest. demon duck and her sister blue are down on nests too, and i think due to hatch in the next 10 days sometime. the first black duck that hatched 7 looks like 4 girls and 3 boys, 6 of which will be blue and white and one will be black and white. they were all eagerly standing at the door waiting to be let out this morning.
corn went in on friday and saturday.....then 1mm of rain. not enough. beans need to go in yesterday....but more likely tomorrow. hopefully we'll get some rain in the next few days. okay.....off my butt and outside.....being super lazy today!

Re: Good Morning!
Good morning, made it under the wire...
Yesterday morning took the seedlings out of the garden shed , cukes and tomatoes , sun disappeared, took the seedlings back to the shed and opened the window, and by noon went back and closed the window too !!!
No rain and wind from the North, by the afternoon it was bl..dy freezing.
Had a first salad out of the garden though, so there is that for consolation prize

Re: Good Morning!
Here is a first for me !!!
Although I have seen their migration in Yukon I have never seen them overhead in Ottawa Valley.
For a moment I thought our neighbors have gotten a donkey (not very likely) but couldn't assign the sound I was hearing until they were overhead, a pair of swans !!!!!!
That completes my bird count for this spring

Re: Good Morning!
How lovely OC! I always enjoy seeing the swans on the river when we drive along the Parkway (from Kingston to Brockville) in the spring. I did see a pair flying over our house for the first time ever this spring. A wonderful sight :).

Re: Good Morning!
We get them regularly in groups of up to 7 going into the Back Pond. Whooshing sound!

Re: Good Morning!
We have more and more swans showing up every year here. This spring was the first time I have seen more than 2 at once. I heard them before I saw them. Pretty magnificent to see a group of 6 flying in a V formation over-head.
