Re: Good Morning!
Roger the Faverolles rooster earned his keep today! Heard a kerfuffle and a local cat was having a go at one of the fav girls. She had a saddle on luckliy but Roger just went at it and the cat ran. Extra treats for him.

Re: Good Morning!
Found out where some of the eggs are going. My sweet, broody turkey has chicken buddies who apparently give her eggs for safekeeping. SHe looked so hurt when I took them!

Re: Good Morning!
well, another morning.....i have to admit it's getting difficult to believe the "good morning" thing lately....hm...every morning is like the last morning....get up, take 30 minutes to get vertical, get moving....breakfast, let out the dog, let in the dog, let out the cat, eat breakfast, let in the cat, feed the horse, take some tylenol or something for the back, and caffeine and on with groundhog day. booked for vaccines-hopefully we get a call soon, we're on a waiting list so far-i might call around and get on a few lists....i want DH and I to get vaccinated at the same time. i'm terrified of bringing it home now...it's all over where i work. it's a bit scary i must admit. And couple that with already having a bad back with quite a few issues lately i'm definitely not wanting to get sick!
evicted the chickens from the garden. DH raked up the mulch back into the gardens and it was so so nice to see it STILL in the garden yesterday! whoohoo! still haven't managed to get photos of the munchkin fuzzybutts....i really should do that. hopefully their brooder plate can keep up with the cold coming. I might put a second one in there tonight to give them more of a buffer from the cold air. I caught 2 humungous rats in the barn yesterday in the live trap....of all things LOL. i just put the trap under a stack of buckets and a box and put some corn in it...they were not happy campers! but that's 3 in the last week. We raised the one coop up off the ground that they had been eating through the floor to get into last summer. we put down wire on the remaining floor and then ply over the top. And there's now a good foot underneath it and the cat fits under there and has been doing lots of hunting under there. i guess we ticked them off, because they're now going into the barn for food.
The only 4 free rangers now are 2 ducks (there are 2 more on nests) and 2 6 week old cockerels from a hen that hatched them out earlier this year. They're still pint sized and too small to be with the adults. It's super nice that the guineas are gone-so much quieter. phew. no more ear plugs needed in the barn. so. now that everyone is contained it's time to clean the barn and pressure wash it all out. once the weather shapes up again. i have a ton of old equipment that needs to be washed, and then wash off the shelving and sweep and all that. looking forward to getting that done and having it STAY done for once!
i think the neighbours wanted to borrow the tiller tomorrow. um. hm. i might be delaying that-ha ha. they could till the snow in, maybe that would be good for the ground water? if the tiller starts below 0! haha. definitely not planting time yet....i better check my asparagus and strawberries and see if they need to be covered. and this year i might end up using the horse blankets to cover the cherry trees, which are in full bloom. as always.....at least i have LARGE horse blankets...should be big enough!

Re: Good Morning!
Snowy morning here, so I don't have to water the garden today
Bit odd looking at the green willow on background of snow.
Just watching a pair of Blue birds outside the window, they don't look very happy.

Yup, snowy here in Kingston too. About 2cm or so now and forecast is for 10-15 more! Luckily, it’s not too cold and the roads are clear due to it melting. I was slow on getting the garden going since I’m new here so just garlic and calendula planted and they won’t care! Lots of things growing inside though for when things warm up again.

I'm in Kingston too Brebis. Large tomato plants (destined for pots) and peppers that were planted early are adorning the windowsills, looking out and probably thinking they are better off where they are with the snow outside!
I also planted arugula, chard and marigolds. Calendula self-sowed and are already up along the edge of the veggie garden. I direct sowed some poppies in the front, and a ton of wild flower seeds in the wild garden. They had accumulated in my seed tin over a few years.
The rest of the seedlings are hunkering down under the lights and I'm really hoping to be able to plant out on Victoria Day weekend. Not that I started my tomatoes too early, or anything like that........

Re: Good Morning!
Pea hens have been busy weaning last year’s chicks. Pretty noisy with yearlings bawling for their hens. I have 4 young from last year that I got too paranoid of having people in to buy them. The man of the house kept getting sick....his autoimmune system is crap at the best of times. So I wintered them, and now terrified to have people come around. Folks across the road sold vehicle parts....the family ended up in quarantine and the 2 guys buying the parts died of COVID. And the man of the house now has shingles that he picked up from grocery shopping / the drugstore. Doesn’t go anywhere else. Thinking I’ll be taking eggs away from the peafowl....unless COVID settles down, I’ll have a full coop with the ones hanging out here now.

Oh no, @Epona, sounds like you have been having a terrible time of it lately, and so has your man of the house. Shingles ... that is just awful to have to deal with. Hang in there and stay safe. Things just have to get better.

Re: Good Morning!
Good afternoon/evening all. Keeps threatening to rain....hubby is on the river in his kayak....apparently the wind is a little brutal lol. i dropped him off..hope he makes it home sometime-we back onto the river so if he gets the correct property he should appear. sometime! the wind has been CRAZY here today. well really since yesterday morning. hoping once this front moves through it will quit it. I did put the framing for the trellis for the pole beans into the garden, and started with the wires.....ran out of wire, so need to find either more wire, or rope, or twine or something to finish up. but i gave up when the wind kept blowing the step ladder over every time i stepped down off it. so i did something nuts and tried to figure out when/if i can retire. hahahahahaha I'm thinking solving world hunger might be easier.
My peppers FINALLY sprouted in the greenhouse. that took forever. sigh. and a friend dropped off a skein of qiviut for me
yay! i can make some mitts! whoohoo! or a hat, or something. haven't decided, and hopefully won't need them till next winter now. I had planned on putting down the plastic for the strawberries today but it was just way too windy for that. and i certainly do not have that kind of patience today. even the ducks are staying in the barn because it's too windy
filled in the paperwork for another spine surgery at the appointment yesterday. even though the CT looks decent there's definite problems in there that have to be fixed. So, who knows when that will be....i'm guessing a year? maybe more? not even sure how long the backlog is, but do know that it's not life threatening and most of those have been cancelled totally. hm. but after 4 weeks on the waiting list DH and I will be getting first doses of covid vaccines shortly! yay! we actually HAVE an appointment! I get the text, go to the website and the appointments are literally disappearing off the screen while i'm reading the screen! so we just grabbed one and clicked......finally. phew. that will make everyone in my immediate circle of family, and quite a few of my friends as well with our first shots.
well, guess i should find something to make for dinner. although i'm not sure if the mad kayak-er person will emerg from the ravine any time soon....hm. guess i'll cook slowly LOL. have a great weekend everyone!
