Good Morning!
Re: Good Morning!
Akkk those darn walnuts, my sister got 21 feed bags full from her tree last year, took them all to the dump. Gonna be lots of walnut trees sprouting at the dump. Interesting enough not many walnuts this year.

Re: Good Morning!
Don't you like walnuts here or are they a different type. Cost a fortune in stores for baking! I'm really hoping our butterbnuts fruit one day. Our hazelnuts have never borne fruit.

They are a different type, still edible but very hard to get the meat out. As kids we did it with a hammer but holy cow not easy to get out and only a small amount as compared to the English variety.

We have walnut trees @ross no need to put out corn for them. They are always headed past with a nut in their mouth. We have them at the back of the property and they still manage to plant some at the front of the house.

Butternuts, ( native to Ontario) so hard tried to break them in a wise, the whole thing just disintegrates, although the squirrels seem to be able to open them.
We have several on the property, but all I ever see are shells after the squirrels harvested the nuts.

Re: Good Morning!
Yeah ours are black walnuts (not the nice european white that you see at christmas). I used to collect and dissect the meat out until i discovered the rash on my hands was not the dye but an allergy to the nuts-that was shortly before I tested positive for most nuts in an allergy test....so they sit. we never had squirrels here at the house until this year. and a bumper crop of walnuts. 3 atv trailer loads already and we only did half on ONE paddock...theres another paddock and a half to go. the ground is just solid with them. Niw that everything is seized in my back muscle wise i can get around a bit easier...i know it just muscles holding everything together....but i have stuff to do so my dh isnt driven over the edge. we start processing today-in fact he is out started already. I am trying not to lose it...all that work...and the time and effort in breeding. sigh. i will be back to chickens after surgery but in a much smaller way....
and work just emailed and said hey your paper revisiins are here...please do asap-including running 2 gels at work. ha ha. no clue how i will do that. i may need to draft my student....sigh.
or try to talk my way out of it with the reviewers. whatever. i shall see how things are on monday.
okay off to help as much as i can....hope everyone has a great day

Re: Good Morning!
Lay your walnuts in the tire grooves of your lane way & drive over them every day till the shell pops off . Check frequently. Old fashion way .
Shell makes nice lane way fill .
BREAKING NEWS ,they now make snow tires with Walnut shells in um for better traction. Go Figure

Tried that too, didn't work, drove the butternuts in to the ground and made divots in the tires
