Re: Good Morning!
@ross that looks so lovely and relaxing, wish I was there :)
Pretty humid here, still feels like summer, doing lots of "right here, right now" so we can store up the feeling for winter.
Scrapped the first of the digesters, going to use it for house compost and the one that is now a house compost, the round one I rely hate the lid, is going to be used for Puppy Poop composting.
When I lifted the composter off the kitchen compost, on the bottom there was an amazing black soil about 25% warms, I have yet to figure out the way to get at the bottom lovely stuff since after 3 years, of daily contributions there are about 2 cups of the lovely casings.
First potatoes out of the garden for lunch today. can't wait :)

Re: Good Morning!
Good morning,
I guess we had our turn last night, doozy of a thunder storm, everything washed to perfection and the grass needs cutting.
Puppy had an 'almost', first visit with chickens, seemed curious to find out where the rooster sound was coming from, so slowly headed along the fence, where everybody was hidden by foliage, when he got to the wide gate, 3 black hens were slowly passing on the other side about 20' away, the whole thing just stunned the puppy, she dropped on her little but, examined the whole thing for about 10 seconds ...and headed for the hills

Re: Good Morning!
I went around closing windows as usual this morning, but with a different objective from many of the days prior to today: keep the heat in, not out.

Re: Good Morning!
Glad it's not breeding season here ATM. One of my little turkey hens disappeared yesterday afternoon. Last seen heading onto a neighbours fields. There have been some Jakes hanging about. We hunted everywhere but no. She sauntered in at dusk looking pleased with herself. I think the litle whotsit is planning a secret nest somewhere.

When we had turkeys, I think I spent most of my time hunting down those nests. I thought the guineas were sneaky, but the those jennies had them beat for best hiding spots.

Good morning,
puppy slept until 6:35 am, small blessings :)
raining steadily here, could have used this one in July
Trying to check my e-mail, puppy chewing on a cabinet handle, starting to feel much like babysitting grandchildern...whatever......as long as it keeps them busy for a minute

It's a beautiful, clear sky day here (right now)!
Time to go check on the zucchini - there are probably some baseball bats; I haven't checked on them in a couple of days.

Re: Good Morning!
Good morning, beautiful day here too, it's hard not to notice fall in the air, I guess its going to happen this year too.
It's hard not to notice how quiet the forum is these days, I think we all do the same thing, peek in, nothing interesting happening, so leave again, I am afraid I have nothing even remotely interesting to say, but I am sure there are people doing amazingly interesting things with their poultry?
Just hoping to live vicariously thru others I guess

Re: Good Morning!
Good day everyone! (i can't really say good morning, because it isn't anymore....). Just accepted a teaching contract for the fall, one course again. Will be nice to be teaching, albeit it totally online. so, more work to adapt this course for online as well.
Desperately need to do some processing....cockerels are being jerks. I was going to go and do some today but DH let them out to free range, and now they're everywhere all over the property, and i'm not chasing them all down. NOPE. so tonight maybe when they go in for the night i'll move the birds i want to keep and then give strict orders to DH to leave them in tomorrow. LOL.
Corn is starting to dry up in the field for the fall. Getting decidedly more noisy in the wind. Munchkin guineas have officially formed an idiot squad and are free ranging off and on, barking all the way....hopefully they'll quiet down soon! they're only 2 months old.....at least from the barking there's at least 3 girls in the group. so that's good. Time to divide up this years hatches and get them into their winter pens for spring breeding. I have another project-a beautiful silver welbar boy that carries mahogany. I have 2 girls with the mahogany in the breast as well, and i'm going to put them together and see what i get kid-wise. They should look a bit like dorkings with mahogany breasts if i'm right with the genetics and the boy will have mahogany hackle, saddle and wing, and silver background and black with barring on the chest. hm.....fingers crossed. This is in addition to my silver and my gold welbar lines. the rhodebars are finished, and ready to go as breeders next year! yay!
i have 2 barred boys, mostly black, a little red leakage on one and a little gold leakage on the other. they are shaped like orpingtons. I do not remember any black barred boys at hatch....no black chicks with dots on the heads that i remember....and viola here are these two boys. they turned up a couple of weeks ago. I do not have orps. or anything even remotely orpington shaped! I'm wondering if they were dumped and found their way to my barn....they certainly are a pair, and hang out together, and are a little bit aloof of my other birds. oh well. all un-needed cockerels are needed in the freezer, so if they were dumps i hope they weren't too attached....gah.
Sent a super friendly rooster and his 3 hens to a friends place....they just got a new coop. hopefully they'll have a good time over there. they already had a few of my birds from before....so they'll all fit in fine.
was going to do marinara sauce today....i'm on vacation for the next 2 weeks! yay! some free time! HAHA. so much to do. so, yes, marinara today, but then i got sidelined by the teaching offer, which then meant uploading the course, and that meant i fried my internet connection and had to restart everything....they said they updated our tower HAHAHAHAHA. downgraded maybe....sigh. i sure hope they get their act together soon. Lecturing over the internet in the country sucks.
Oh, we got a telescope. finally. and played with it last night. OMG how awesome!!!!! we saw jupiter and saturn, and actually felt like we were standing on the surface of the moon....(why would anyone want to go there??!). I was absolutely shocked at how huge saturn's rings are! we should have done this a LONG time ago!
alright. off to check on critters and find some marinara vegetables and get that going.
