hi everyone!
where did the last week go? heck the last month? or wow...the summer?? its just flying by. I hear people complaining about boredom with the covid 19 thing....too much spare time...WHAT SPARE TIME??!!!! Argh!
helped friends fix their roof yesterday....we were going to extract honey but the containers werent delivered...but...wait! what was in my parcel box since friday? i guess someone didnt hear the truck while i was at work.and someone else didnt bother to check because some company didnt send a delivery notice lol. found them yesterday evening. so guess what we will attempt today? lol
i let the youngster guineas out to learn about free ranging and they dutifully got stuck in the hay. sink or swim guys. and went to do chores yesterday and a stench upstairs....big old bloated dead rat. at least i know the poison is working...but that one got added to a bucket of waste water (in case it blew up on the way to the burn bin) and it floated...ug. so gross. anyways that one is disposed of to the depths of firedom...made 8 jars of ketchup yesterday. fixed a roof. pulled some weeds. froze some peppers. saw some shooting stars in the evening....persied showers are nice this year! hopefully it clears up for viewing again the next 2 nights.
was starting to think a viable business opportunity may exist in tutoring...lol.
chickens will soon need to move to new pens. selected my muscovies to keep...i have every shade of blue under the sun it seems. theyre all gorgeous. i have 2 white that i will keep and a couple of blues with bibs and random splotches of white. theres one that looks like blue black and white that will stay as well. turkeys are using the great outdoors now...scared of every sparrow that flies by. saved a sparrow that tried to drown itself in a tree watering bucket yesterday. and soon going to be cockerel processing time. so generally a nice quiet week here lol. i need some holidays....haha
Yeah, the sometimes when I hear someone complaining about the Covid boredom thing I get a bit irked. Especially when you offer suggestions and they all get shot down for one lame reason or another.
Summer is flying by for me too, or so it seems. I do recall some oppressively hot humid days that I thought at the time went on forever, though. I don't know where you find all your energy, Kathy. When it's hot and humid, I don't do well at all, and very little gets done.
I guess I've missed the window for watching the Perseid showers again ... I should have asked Alexa to remind to go out and look for them, since I don't seem to be able to remember these things on my own. ;-)
We still have to integrate our three survivor quail hens in with the gang in the quail tractor. Didn't do it on Saturday because we found evidence of another attempted break-in at the same corner of the tractor. No chance of entry this time, which is why the perpetrator gave up, but we didn't want our girls to be terrorized by the possibility of whatever it was if it decided to come back so we set traps the last few nights. It hasn't been back, of course. Today they WILL be integrated, because I am just about out of time ... tomorrow the youngsters will be 4 weeks old.

@Jaye Perseid maximum is TONIGHT into tomorrow morning. Look NEish for the radiant after dusk, near Cassiopeia the W constellation. Best time should be around 23:00 before the moon rises. A couple of weaker meteor showers are around too but don't emanate from Perseus as a radiant.

@Ontario Chick I'm glad everyone is okay! I've seen that happen so many times in the country it's scary, and nearly had it happen several times to me too-I'm slowing down to turn left and the guy behind the guy behind me gets all bent out of shape and tries to pass...I double and triple check now because i just don't trust people. I got a really nice lecture this morning from a person who decided to turn left into a single laned road that i was turning right into on a green light....i slammed on the brakes to avoid her and gave her the horn and she got out and told me she had right of way to turn left....i told her she needed to check the regulations again that the person turning right has first right of way, and she said it's 2 lanes, you stay on the right and i'll stay on the left....it's a ONE LANE ROAD!!!! she realized that when she got back in and drove another 10 feet. OMG. then walking to my office someone yells at me that i'm not allowed in so-and-so room without all the PPE....I stopped, and walked over to them and said "on what planet do you have the right to yell at someone walking to their own office, wearing all the appropriate PPE for being in the hallway?". She turned red under her faceshield and mask and I just turned around and walked away.....my goodness. This world is NUTS today. But then another person notices that our liquid nitrogen tank is almost empty and he's from another lab, was filling his up and so he filled ours up too without even being asked....so there are some great people in the world. but then the question remains...why was our tank almost empty? like WHO isn't doing their JOB??!
gah.
i'm looking forward to shooting stars tonight. maybe one will fall to earth and knock some sense into people. Or maybe, let's just go epic big and get it over with LOL.

@WLLady I am starting to wonder if everybody was that incompetent and ignorant before and were just able to cover it up somewhat successfully, or if covid just made us all a bit stupider, with the masks exacerbating the problem by blocking brain waves ?

Just got back from a first "contactless" vet visit with "puppy"
Talk to the vet on my little flip phone from the parking lot. I am assuming they are pretty busy, since they are letting in only one dog at the time.
I am having hard time stopping the vet from explain the whole puppy inoculation system, finally having to rudely interrupt her (not really my style) to tell her that I have instructions from the breeder on how she wants the inoculations administered.
Meanwhile watching lightening and clouds darkening.

Assistant comes out, gets the carrier with puppy, and I wait,
Then vet gets back on the phone and proceeds to explain to me a)what the breeder is asking and vet fine with that, as I say storm starting, can we just make the first appointment and discuss details later? Sure she says, see you in 3 weeks, the receptionist will set that up.
Receptionist gets on...

ummm, what day is it today???? (this is 2pm)
keep in mind I am sitting in my car with the only technology available my little flip phone.
she establishes the date and says so one week is the 18th and 2 weeks is the 25 and 3 weeks is the Sept 1st, so thats no good (me, no idea why) ?
Her, so can we make it Two weeks???? Me, WHY ??? her OK so how about 31st??? OK....
by that time there is a torrential downpour in which I have to get puppy from the back door,
thinking the bl..dy humanity has lost it collective mind.

Yep, had a similar experience for Aiden's wellness appointment for his shots and general health check, all via mobile phone out in the parking lot, on one of those ridiculous extreme heat and humidity days in July. No advance warning of what to expect (one would think they would mention something when they called to remind me of his upcoming appointment), just signage at the door to say you can't come in and please phone to announce your arrival. So there we both are at the front door in the blazing sun, phoning to be let in. The technician who answered informed me that he needed to ask some preliminary questions, and started down the check list. I interrupted him to ask if he was aware of the outside temperatures and that Aiden and I were standing at the entrance, and he said "Oh, why don't you go back to your car?" assuming I had air-conditioning. Okay, I do, but that's not the point. Anyway, went back to the car, answered his list of questions, then had to bring Aiden back over to the entrance so that he could take him inside to the vet. Aiden doesn't like it much when he's being led off by a stranger and I'm being left behind, so that took some convincing, but eventually he went in and I went back to the car to await the vet consultation phone call. I swear he was looking for some quick revenue, because one of the things he said was, "I see he really needs his teeth attended to. We can send you a quote for that". He must have looking at the last comment in the chart, dated last summer, rather than looking at his actual teeth, because we had taken him to Pearly Whites for Pets last October, and although he was due for a follow-up appointment, his teeth were in really good shape. SMH.
