First 2020 set broody
Re: First 2020 set broody
@KimChick I would look around for another day old chick or 2. It will help in the long run. A single chick is very difficult everyone needs a buddy. There are lots of chicks out there. Good luck! I don't have any day olds.

I found with my last broodie she had 4 chicks 3 turned out to be cockerals the little pullet no longer fits in always harrassed by the boys so I put her in with the silkie babies. She's a silkie herself gets along great with the babies and will find other friends as they mature amongst them.

Totally agree with you! Silkies are some kinda wonderful birds. Totally out weights the amount of work they entail. I had a little one that wasn't going to make it. My partner talked me into giving it egg, in the 1/2 shell (kenya wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 3:15 pmI found with my last broodie she had 4 chicks 3 turned out to be cockerals the little pullet no longer fits in always harrassed by the boys so I put her in with the silkie babies. This is interesting everyone, but the other chicks I have are 11-12 days older. You mean I should try bringing one of those to the hen and chick? Maybe pick a small one?

No I wouldn't do that until she was bigger, in your case just leave her with the Mom .

No, go and buy a day old chick(s) from someone on fb or somewhere on this site. That's what I mean. You need to get 1 or 2 more day old chicks and put them under Mom at night. She will take them. Good luck

I have been known to drive 3 hours round trip to pick up chicks so I don't have any singles. Whenever I hatch shipped eggs, I always put 4 to 6 silkie eggs in with the hatch. Even if I only hatch one of the shipped eggs, my silkies always hatch. So, I make sure I always have more tha one. Learned the hard way, hence the 3 hour round trip to pick up 2 chicks
