Re: Coronavirus - how much do you worry ?
I think that a forecast of economic effects being recovered only by second quarter of 2022 is quite a long forecast.

Re: Coronavirus - how much do you worry ?
I don't see that one coming at all. The big difference between the spending in past economic downturns is that this time the money reaches private people. Not banks and huge companies. Right now a lot of production is being halted and shipping doesn't happen. There are also no customers out there. It's like a huge pause button. So what will happen when people can finally go shopping again? They will spend money on what they need, saving and recovering from the expenses they had during the pandemic. That is overall still less purchasing than before the pandemic. Topped with a big number of unemployed who don't have the money to buy luxury items.Killerbunny wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2020 8:13 pmi well remember those mortgage rates and in the UK they were variable too so you really didn't know how much each month. Mortgages there were also very difficult to get at the time.
When you have a ready production line, but few people to buy, you reduce the price for them to buy your stuff. That is deflation. Not inflation.
What does the bank of Canada want to do? keep inflation at 2%. If it's below that, they reduce interest rates to stimulate spending. Interest rates of BoC are the basis for the mortgage rates.

History is written by the victor. With any luck in this current scenario, the victors will be scientists that find effective treatments for this scourge.
Very valid fear. Nobody wants to see economic models right now unless you want looting and rioting. Either way, we are likely going to be looking at another Great Depression. I have little doubt that we need to find new ways of doing business (or perhaps, really old ways). I think most people would agree that our current economic system is way too fragile.

A lot of people are understanding that fresh food in a grocery store is not a given. Veseys is not accepting seed orders anymore. Too many orders....

Re: Coronavirus - how much do you worry ?
I hope so. I am going to remove myself from this topic, because i just wrote an entire book on the evidence that this was NOT a manmade virus to try to educate those that cannot be educated. I'm sick of it on social media-the fake news on things like FB is unbelievable. I try to educate as a scientist but it still becomes a witch hunt of epic proportions. And people wonder why scientists don't like to talk about their research with the public. This is it in a nutshell. Scientist warns of impending issue - SARS in bats sold at wet market and likelihood of zoonotic transmission-people are animals too so that could include us. 5 years ago they find SARS in a species of bat and sound the alarm. 2020 SARS jumps. kills people. spreads. and it's the scientists fault. how does that go? well from a scientist's point of view that's like "person A" calling the police because there's a child in the road, it will get hit by a car. Child gets hit, so "person A" is arrested and charged for willful endangerment by the police for putting the child in the road. I'm sick and tired of it. The media doesn't help. I could spout all kinds of scientific references PROVING that this is a Bat virus, jumped to pangolins and then to people. but it won't do any good because there has to be a witch hunt.windwalkingwolf wrote: ↑Thu Apr 23, 2020 2:12 amHistory is written by the victor. Please provide your peer reviewed proof of fact that this is a man-made virus. Here's a few peer reviewed articles showing the bat/pangolin arrival of SARS-CoV2.LongCrow wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2020 10:54 amAn update for all those who felt I was fear mongering and spreading gossip. It is looking more and more each day that the virus was man-made in the Wuhan lab. The lab that Trudeau supported with a generous Canadian tax dollar $830,000 donation to impress other supporters like Bill Gates and USA $3.4 million dollar donation during Obama years. Dr. Fauci is even on record from a few years ago predicting Trump would face a major pandemic.

and a very nice review https://www.cell.com/cell/pdf/S0092-867 ... all%3Dtrue
all i can suggest is do the molecular biology. it's not rocket science. Look for yourself. Learn. discover the truth and then you'll join my world of shaking my head and getting angry and then throwing your hands up and walking away because nothing in this world EVER changes with the conspiracy theories. Trump somehow elected for 4 years, SARS, MERS, and all of a sudden SARS-CoV-2....it's not like we didn't have warning something was brewing.....4 major viruses in a few years? SARS, MERS, H1N1 and Ebola...the lab is one of 54 in the world. it is also been there since 1956 and got an entire overhaul in 2015 which needed money to bring it to level 4 containment (BTW do you know how far 830K goes to level 4 containment upgrades? ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!! virtually NOWHERE I can tell you that for a fact having needed to upgrade the lab where I work when we moved from level 1 to 2+...and that's nowhere NEAR level 4). it's strategically placed to be at the site where viruses jump-the wet markets. Read the peer reviewed scientific publications. Believe what you want, but have an open mind to cold hard fact based evidence....and if you don't believe the scientists because they're "bought and paid for by pharma" (i cannot believe i even typed that) then go and become a scientist, revel in your begging for grant dollars because wow, where is big pharma again? do the research. put 2 and 2 together. fight to publish. do peer review. Then we'll talk again.
It's been a great discussion for me here, but I'm done. I'm happy to talk science with those that want to actually learn something about the virus, but I just can't be here anymore...so i'm saving the moderators (me!) from removing me, because i'm removing myself.....have fun....see ya around the chicken stuff.

I know you think scientists are the only smart ones, the rest of society is unable to be educated and shouldn't be allowed to make decisions.
The thing is if you play with fire sometimes you get burned. That Wuhan lab has had CDC reports of operating in an non-secure manner. It is very possible that while manipulating the virus it escaped from the lab. If all was the way you scientists claim why did China silence doctors and reporters. Some even disappeared and may be imprisoned or worse.
I too will make this my last post on this topic........... I think I'll sit back and watch the fan to see what hits it and for how long.

And now Mr. Trump says all you need to do is inject a little Lysol, maybe into the lungs, that will fix the nasty chinese virus. He already killed a few halfwits with aquarium cleaner, why not a few more with Lysol or Detol or Mr Clean.
OK, wear your tinfoil hat if you that want to. They dont hurt anyone. But please, dont hurt others. Dont drink anything with a skull and crossbones on the label. Dont tell anyone else to. Dig a hole and bury your guns in the back yard for when the deep state comes to get you. Believe what you want, but if most of the conspiracy theories were bottled, they would have a skull and crossbones on them. I guess, drink it if you want to, but dont try and make everyone drink it.
I have no understanding of how someone this scientifically challenged and even lacking common sense such as Trump could reach the high level he has, or how his followers are still his followers. Donald trump is Jim Jones with a lot more believers, they just havent got to the drink your koolaid part yet.
I also am going to leave this thread. It makes me too crazy.

Re: Coronavirus - how much do you worry ?
Almost all bang on...but I am thinking ( yes yes, always a dangerous thing, but i digress) ...when people are allowed back thru the gates to commerce, there will be people like me, miserly and close with my coin, that will remember and buy only what I need and rarely splurge...then others who have the cash, always have had, and really don't care and buy what they want...and then the rest, the vast majority, whose vast need to alleviate some empty spot in their lives will spend like the proverbial drunken sailor and buy buy buy with money and credit they cannot afford to spend but really don't care ...because immediate gratification is paramount to any common sense...it's basically why there is such a rush to 'normal' to open things up south of us and now, sadly, in Sask......asshats...but it is what it ispoultry_admin wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2020 10:37 pmI don't see that one coming at all.
