Good Morning!
Re: Good Morning!
OC - It's good that you took your car out on a run; even vehicles need to get some exercise. Boy, glad I got a couple 10kg bags of flour the last time it was on sale. DH has been the one to do the shopping; I'm fine just staying put.
KB - We just got our egg sign finished the other day; I'm thinking I'll put it out when I know I will have extras. Many of DH's seeds have sprouted - kale, rapini, brussel sprouts, cabbage, and tomatoes.
Flower bulbs have halted because of the cold; it'll be nice to see them perk up with some warm weather. I might just perk up a bit, too!

OC not sure what the difference is. This is why I always send DH shopping. Bread flour is in short supply ATM but I already had spares too.

Glad I bought flour the last time that I shopped :). I tried to buy yeast as I only have one small container of it, but it seems impossible. I hear that a couple of places in Canada are working on increasing production, so I guess I will just hang in and hope that there IS some around when I really need it.

If the Bulk Barn is still open, they sell yeast. That's where I get the vacuum packed brick of instant yeast that lasts a very long time. Unless they are sold out, too.labradors wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 1:24 pmGlad I bought flour the last time that I shopped :). Re: Good Morning!
Bulk Barn does do online "curbside" orders. Just order ahead online.

Re: Good Morning!
Bright and sunny and crisp this morning,
yesterday bright and sunny afternoon let the chickens out and it started to snow, although it stayed sunny.
Trying to figure out some timelines today , preferably sometime after the thermometer reaches 5C but before the snow squalls.
Now that the planet is getting a little break, I wonder if we are going to be little smarter after this is over.
Please don't answer, I already know what it is, but one can hope can't one???

A very good morning. Just checked fertility and HD is getting the job done (I always wonder how with turkeys they seem so clumsy). Also looks like one of the Hellbeasts and maybe Kathleen too want babies!

Re: Good Morning!
Still morning for 20 minutes or so. I'm making bread today, and used some yeast never opened that expired in 2014! A whole jar of it. Well, its instant yeast... I proofed it, and it worked. My dough is rising as I type. (I did use a little extra). The cinnamon buns the other day I used traditional yeast, it was 2017, lol. They DID rise... but maybe could have risen a bit more if I used more? Or took it out of jar, and let come to room temperature first? I have 3 tsp in a cup 'warming' up, before I proof it. Maybe that will make the difference. I've kept all in the fridge.. although the 2014 yeast was brand-new never opened. This other yeast, if it 'proofs', will be used in making a couple of french sticks.
Too cold to work outside. Its nice out, but windy as heck! And feels like -3C, lol. Its only supposed to be 4C today as it is. Feels SO cold. Always have nice weather in April at the start, and then wham. It snows... and gets so cold! With all the doors and vent closed in the greenhouse the other day, we were having blasts of snow showers, fine snow. It was snowing inside the greenhouse with the wind! NO clue where it was getting in. All over maybe. It is old. Have had it a long long time, and moved it to here where I live on the hill. Get ALL The winds now.
Hung the laundry out... and froze my fingers. Thought I could stand out there on the south facing porch and hang it without a coat. NOPE. Well, I did.. but had to come in once and warm my fingers, lol. I figured when I went out the second time, I could get it hung faster than going to find my coat.
Had our first calf of the season yesterday morning. The mom is a first timer, and her mom is blonde x Angus. Her dad is black Angus. The baby was out of an AI bull... red angus. Surprizing the colour he came out, lol. Looks absolutely nothing like a red angus calf. But back in the mom's bloodline is Charolais. So... maybe where the black angus char colour comes in for her.
We are cutting down to about 10 cows... enough to maybe help keep the barn warm with their calves and last years calves (until they go to market), and that will keep us in beef, and sell to some of our friends. And eat the odd crap hay thats not too garbagey, lol.
My timer has gone off for the bread rising... so will put it in the bread pans, and start the proofing of the other yeast, and maybe the french sticks. I have NO more wood in stock to split, but this weather is perfect for working outside.
