I agree too, Kathy. I like the PTO Classifieds setup just the way it is.

I liked the PSO setup just because if I looked under new posts the new ads would show up. I agree with arbor and shnookie but understand the reasoning for the change but like farrier I am confused when they say look at pictures and I don't see any. Also I would like to see a user name so I don't waste my time phoning or pming when I already know the answer from past experience with that person on the site.

but the user name is on the ad right above the button you have to press to contact them......
martin is going to check if there's a way to show the seller/user name in the preview so you don't have to actually open the ad to see the user.
as for the photos, the person posting has 4 photos they can upload (again, they need to be resized appropriately), one of those can be designated the photo that goes with the preview. if the poster doesn't do that, no picture will show on the preview.
the only reason you can't see pictures is because there aren't any uploaded with the ad-and if they aren't the appropriate size they will not upload. Al and i have checked all the functions of the photos etc, and everything is working properly....as far as we can tell.

Just takes time to adjust to the changes. Totally appreciate the work you folks are doing. We'll all get the hang of it as time goes on. This time of year the classifieds were pretty slow in PSO. Just take a look at kijiji ads for poultry, pretty sparse now. This weather is definitely kick starting spring fever for me......can't seem to talk the gang in the barn into the mood though.

I appreciate the discussion as it helps me figure out what makes things better
and which settings I can activate to really annoy everyone
Improvements implemented to the Classifieds as of tonight:
- new ads without a picture get a pop up window asking if the post should really go up without a picture. It's still possible, of course just one more "are you sure?" click.
- file size per picture is 10MB (current cell phone pictures are approx. 6-7MB). This should eliminate the re-sizing issue.
- 45 days instead of 90 days before the poster of an ad is notified that the ad will be deleted if no action is taken. If an item is sold before then, I still encourage everyone to remove their ad immediately!
The last two items go together, hopefully this will make sure we don't use too much storage space. I will keep an eye on it and adjust the duration as needed to keep the storage size in check.
If you guys click on "browse ads" you see the ads in chronological order with the newest ones on top. This is close to a forum view you are used to.
If you click on "search ads" you can search for ads from specific sellers.
The old habit of "I looked up old ads and contacted them to see if they had more,...", this can be done through the breeder directory. There people can post what breeds they have and post pictures with them as well. Just browse the directory listing and you will see what I mean. Thanks for everyone who put up their info there! If you have not yet added your farm/store/club/.... to the directory, feel free to!
I am still checking if I can add the username to the ad in the list view, but have to admit I am not too wild about changing that. Mainly because I am worried that I cannot hide the username from guests. IMHO it is much more important that users are logged on before they contact the seller than avoiding a click that will likely happen anyways.
As I said at the beginning, I am happy for the feedback of how this all is being used and what would make it better. I think we all have the same goal in making this forum and the site the best place it can be. So, please keep it coming!

Not too sure I understand what you are talking about with the user name, I'm logged on and still don't always see a user name in all the ads.
