well, moved another bale this weekend and the dog should have a nice shiny coat in a couple of days, and didn't eat any kibble for a day or so. LOL. big reorganization happening around my place the next couple of weeks. Processed about 30 boys on the weekend, and now there's just the keepers growing out and the girls. But 2 of the guineas escaped while rooting around in the pen upstairs for culls and the girl is in the rafters of the barn, but the boy that got out is *somewhere*....likely in the hay since we didn't find him anywhere. those birds and the epitome of stupid. picked the apples from the one tree, and now we are floating in apples. 2 crates to storage, another bushel to "eat now" of bruised or whatever, and 8 jars of apple butter/sauce made (i didn't try to boil it down it was so thick it wouldn't run through the blender even). and apple crisps, and pies. yum. and we still have another tree to pick. which will happen shortly because the apples are falling. so early this year. more grapes to pick and all the winter squash is ready-butternuts and hubbards and fortna pumpkins and and and! we are not going to starve this winter. So next weekend will be another processing weekend-extra turkeys, and the rest of the cockerels, plus all the older birds that have decided that breaking and eating eggs is a fun pastime. I'm going to try tossing them out the door first, and if they keep breaking and eating eggs they're done and will be processed into chicken jerky dog treats. they're all between 4-7 years old-and definite free loading slackers! Once the old ones are out, the youngsters get the barn for the winter. and then i should be down to my 3-4 lines. one more grass cut needed, and then i think we're going to be into frost. Couldn't believe the 35C this past weekend....i much prefer the 22 it should be today!!!

Apple picking in full swing here, never thought I would say this, but I am a bit worried about how perfect the apples look.
we don't spray and the apples had a healthy crop of blemishes for the last 30 years, and this year even the falls look perfect, not sure what to make of it.

our apples look perfect too! and HUGE. we only dormant sprayed in the spring. that was it. best crop ever. i'm a little worried that winter might be a little snowy this year....bumper crops of everything. grapes. apples. plums (my goodness i do NOT want to see another plum for MONTHS!). raspberries and my ever bearing strawberries are still strawberrying.
I made an apple crisp a couple of days ago, and 2 apples filled the dish. anything bruised is going to the horses....they stalk us now if we are near the apple tree. LOL.
still have a bushel or so to do something with....

Funny but I've noticed that our maggoty apples aren't maggoty this year and I've done nothing! (I keep meaning to spray with dormant oil, but always forget). Bumper crops of everything and I'll have to deal with the grapes before too long....

All our apple were eaten off the trees by the squirrels and chipmunks...lol

So, I have 2 showgirls broody...I decided to try the frozen peas under the belly approach. Can you guess what happened?

We got lots of apples off our one, never pruned, tree. DH thinks they are called Golden Blush but not positive. Ours are also naturally grown and are beautifully bug-free. Some branches were so low, that our cows were pulling them down and letting them go to knock apples down.

Hawk migration in full flight here . Lockdown on free range chickens & roller pigeons into there winter pens for some late year breeding . No casualties yet but some close calls . Don’t know where my protective crows ( Darth Vader’s) disappeared to . Ground predators are coming out of bush too .

Yup here too. Northern Harriers and Coopers especially.
