Once I have my incubators fixed up and running I will hopefully start.
I like to get all my hatching done before mid May.

I like to have 3 small bators in case there is a disaster in one. I want to start turkeys MUCH earlier this year and I'm hoping for broodies to do the work!

Re: ?? when do u fire up ur Bator ??
for some reason i have no problem with chicks....or pullets....they all sell just fine, or i need them on projects. it's the cockerels that annoy me LOL.
and i don't run full loads in the incubators. for the winter it's usually only one line at a time, and about 10 eggs at a time. i've been lucky combining chicks from different hatches, and i do have 2 brooders plus 2 secure pens in the basement plus 3 coops and pens in the barn....i can build more brooders as needed LOL

Re: ?? when do u fire up ur Bator ??
It depends. I have a small incubator and I only hatch for myself, and I've more than once kicked myself that I didn't hatch eggs from a favourite hen or enough eggs from a good pairing, so I have a tendency to run it all year, or whenever the birds I NEED (lol) to reproduce are cooperating. As a result, I once hatched turkeys on Hallowe'en and then was stuck with them in the house for months. I've hatched chicks in December/january more than once, with no ability to put them out of the house (wood heat only), and while I love listening to them, I hate the dust and mess. So I'm trying to stay away from doing that. I haven't had the incubator running since October, and I'm suffering severe withdrawal, especially since I've got a couple ducks and a goose that didn't get the memo that it's the wrong time of year to lay eggs! I expect the goose to lay a clutch and sit them (she did it in january once) but I doubt the ducks will, so I'm itching to set those eggs.

Re: ?? when do u fire up ur Bator ??
I like chicks to hatch in April.... Easter chicks are fun!! But.. I especially like new laying pullets, that lay in the late fall/winter!! Just when the old flock is winding down for the winter, the young ones are ramping up. Course, then I hatch all the time start spring. I have a mutt project going... and can't wait to get chicks off those girls!!
Going for all time colourful great laying mutts.

I start mine up in April usually. This Year with the weather, I have pigeons that just hatched a clutch in my outdoor aviary. We might have spring in February. Might have to think about starting early this year. If winter ever arrives.

If winter does NOT arrive....I will likely fire up the incubator EARLY!!!! Like January 1st - ha ha ha
BTW "VissersPoultry" are those all incubators? Are you Making them or restoring them?
Are the four layers inside for eggs or keeping the chicks warm?
I wish I had room for that many chicks ~ maybe my next place (*o*)
