Re: Good Morning!
It is a wonderful day. I have survived. The love of my life has been gone for two weeks and shall return today. I do love her, even though she tried to kill me. She took the can opener with her. I shall be very glad to see her anyway. And the chickens and the goats and the dogs and cats and horse will all set up a merry ruckus too.

Re: Good Morning!
good morning everyone! alright. i'm done. -23. DONE i tell ya! it was so cold this morning that i had to check puppy for frostbitten feet after she ran all the way over to the manure pile and then couldn't get back-because she needed to hold 3 feet up all at the same time. sigh. got her back to the house, but this is too stupid cold for MARCH! my fuzzies in the basement now have a brooder plate AND a heat lamp on because the cold air dropping from the foundation on these mornings is making a cold draft through the brooder. sigh. AND our front door is all iced in from the frozen eavestrough not being able to handle any ice melting in the sun. argh! i have weakened and thrown up some ice melt into the eavestrough to try to get things up there thawed up, but i think/hope warmer weather should help clear up the issue....sigh.
next batch of turkeys hit the hatcher last night...."due" on friday...
@Farrier1987 please tell Cathy a happy welcome home!!!! do you not know the concrete block trick of opening cans? LOL. i'll show you sometime....then at least you won't starve....ha ha.
lost one of my older barred rock girls last night. the light had burnt out in the coop and the one rooster was raising a ruckus over something so i switched out the lightbulb and he was standing over her trying to get her up on the roost. she was all huddled, cold and barely breathing and her comb was that deathly pale awful colour and her heartbeat was super erratic.........sigh. so i put her up into the warm nesting box, and got the stuff and did the right thing. sigh. she was pushing 5 years old...and laid just about every 3rd day without fail. i knew she'd been not feeling great for a little while....ah well.
and i went to get feed on monday and the feed store was telling me that there's a huge shortage of pine shavings, so if you have some available and you use them you might want to stock up!!!! looks like they won't be getting any more for about 2 months! apparently most of ontario is going to be affected.....

Re: Good Morning!
@WLLady any babies yet??????
Well yesterday afternoon one of my silly turkey Jakes decided that since he is dominant over his brother he would take on HD. This was a big mistake. Re turkey handling 101, I easily picked up the whimpering boy from the corner and carried him single handed to a spare coop & pen (PM me if you need to know what a spare pen is LOL). This morning he is OK but a bit battered and very subdued and nervous. Daft bugger!

Re: Good Morning!
several pips and one zipping this morning. taking their sweet time, they probably saw the weather report and opted to stay in their eggs a little longer LOL.
hopefully tonight! they're actually 28 days tomorrow morning, so....
what is with turkeys? my one tom is still separated and living solo in the barn because he insists on fighting everything! he is, however, becoming fast friends with sally (the puppy)....go figure.
yes, i'm unfamiliar with the term "spare pen" @Killerbunny LOL some birds.....

I sold a milk goat a couple years ago. They had chickens and cows and one turkey. Went to visit her a couple months later and went out to the pasture. Was going up to pet her, and this big tom starts thumping his chest and threatening me. He and the goat were best buds, and he was going to straighten out this intruder.
