First thunder storm of the year rumbling through right now. I am going to wait for it to stop before I go out to do chores. There will be small lakes all over the barnyard, but it is supposed to freeze again tonight, so shouldn't get too soupy.

Getting 5 or 5 eggs from my 20 or so girls every day. Some from two October hatches should be laying reasonably soon, and I expect to be flooded with eggs come April. Nothing acting broody yet and that's ok.

The wonderful Catherine has left me to go to Alberta and see descendants and four bears. I miss her, but she says she will be coming back. I guess I just have to trust her on that. Today would be soon enough.

Cleo the young mother is getting me trained on how she want to be milked. still kicking a fair bit. Mucky foot hitting the milk pail, contents still going to the chickens. They will be disappointed when I start actually using the milk. Drying up Dulcinaya who I have been milking since she kidded in May. Not sure it stuck, but she should be due in May, so she will have a couple months dry.

Looking outside, its getting daylight, fog out there now, the thunderstorm has passed, better go tend to the bunch.

Freezing rain here at the moment. Just got back from tending all the outdoor poultry, now just need to give indoor girl Lily her morning dose of eye meds. It's looking better - still not great, but there's a definite improvement - so I think the antibiotics are working.
Charlie just let me know that his no-crow collar needs adjusting ... still pretty loud this morning, though thankfully not as incessant as before he was wearing it. He got used to it fairly quickly, which is good. Sad and comical watching him bump into things for the first 5 minutes or so, trying to back out of the collar. After he gave up on that, he spent a great deal of time trying to pull it off, but he doesn't seem to even notice it now.
I picked up a bag of layer mash from the feed store, hauled it down to the coop, stuffed it in the designated aluminum garbage can, and opened the bag. Oats. :gaah: . I've never had this happen before, so have long since stopped checking the labels. This means a trip back to Kemptville asap because I am down to maybe three day's worth left in the old bag. I don't know how I'm going to get there before closing during the week, since I work in Ottawa. Good thing I at least have some fermented grains left for them.

@Killerbunny you must have my Nuthatches, they haven't been here since you were here ;)
Freezing rain here, it's going to be a skating ring at the end of the day, with the winds perhaps a small hand held Sail might be the preferred transportation ?
Have a safe one!

well, my greenhouse blew apart yesterday and last night. as did the wind break (now that's ironic) to block the wind into the stall for the horses. sigh. no way to put anything back together until this blasted wind quits! argh! found all the pieces....i think i'm going to be reinforcing the frame with wood strapping, and screwing everything together now. this is the 3rd time we've had winds over 100km/hr. and 3rd time i've had to walk 100 acres to the bush to get the pieces back.
at least it's lexan and didn't break.
stay safe everyone!!!!

It's blowing something fierce here, so everything that was covered with water yesterday, is now frozen and smooth and shiny, had guests on Sunday so parked the truck as far away from the house as possible, now not sure how to get to it.
@ross that looks scary, wouldn't want to do the clean up after.
Sun coming up, so up and at it!
