LOL i'm so glad that @Killerbunny answered that one....LOL. i did notice because male mice will strain when picked up by the tail and that causes the testes to stick so they get bumpy....but i didn't really want to go there HA HA!!!! and this one was squeaking when i picked it up by the tail-which i found girls don't do as much....um....complaining....okay, i'm going to stop there before i get in trouble and have to moderate my own post.

yeah, i worked with mice a LOT in my science life...i just needed to get it out of the trap and onto the ground and the darned thing had a death grip on the trap because it knew the cat was there....anyways, i was also wearing gloves. i don't like getting bit by strange vermin carrying whatever diseases they carry. so gloves always.

still freezing rain off and on here. i'm going to have to go and knock it all off the horse fence. They closed the university at 12:30 finally....should have closed it earlier-like before everyone went in! it's a skating rink STILL here. i'll have to chip my way into the coop....my salt is UNDER the ice now. go figure....oh well. i'll go out and peel up the sheets of ice soon. it was starting to fall off the roof anyways, rumbling away. hopefully it leaves the eavestroughing up! stay safe everyone

Same here, for sure didn't slow down enough to examine the details
Crazy weather here, blowing and sunny and then ice pellets and white out, change pretty much every 15 minutes.
Got the groceries home, so will survive for another week, ;) time to stop hoarding and start using my "winter stash"
Last carrots from the garden and a tray of potatoes left and that's it until next summer, or wait and garlic, still plenty of that.
Have a safe one!

i still want the expensive green and yellow paint tractor. there's a dealer about 3 miles from here....we could tow it that far if needed ha ha
Green and yellow tractor? Shop carefully today: if the tractor is small enough to be put in a shipping container than it ain’t made in North America - one company in South Korea makes a dozen midsize tractors with different paint jobs. Plus modern tractors are all computers and censors - you need a part - you need the parts list. Parts list? no more microfiche - now you pay $100 for online access to the manual - access expires in 10 days.
I know farmers - they curse the “new and improved” tractors - green and white? they’re the worst- sensor failed? too bad mr farmer - you can’t fix it - or bypass it - call the dealer - three days later repair guy shows up - 30 mins to fix - $500 fee. They got ya.

Massey equipment - open source - parts shared with other manufacturers - they are a bit better - turbos? emissions censors? yuck

Tractor - too old - no more parts - discontinued - too bad

Give me a machine from the 80’s or early 90’s - something built in large numbers - and find an old feller who uses one lightly. I got my eye on a 1979 Ford 65hp - 1200 hours on it - looks almost new - guy worked for the federal gov’t hobby farmer - made a bit of hay and blew his snow. He now rents his farm out and he’s in his mid 80’s

But I really don’t need it - this place is rented out anyway.

 LOL, thanks, KB. And here I thought it was going to be something less obvious. Like length of tail or size of feet. :-)

Good morning,
Had some serious whiteouts yesterday, I am sure @baronrenfrew had some too, some spectacular crashes out that way.
Thank you @poultry_admin for the beautiful pictures at the Top of the page, great reminder how beautiful winter is, while our butts are freezing.
Sure looks pretty out this morning, that bright clean look after the storm :)

green and yellow=deere....lol. its a joke here that the yellow paint is super expensive...but the dealer is at the end of my road basically. yeah well new battery new alternator and new starter and it seems to run-at least it moved hay last week pretty well. so it may survive our ownership a little longer. i still want something with a cab.

in other news....+15 to -22 in 24 hours. and i wonder why i am creaky today. no snow here it all blew away. its dry hard muck now-which is honestly way better than the wet muck!!! had to trim up a hoof on a horse tho...stood on something and cracked a chunk off. sigh. winter.

ordered some bins this week and will order some mealworms once the bins arrive. will likely end up driving to pick them up since its so cold out. but i am going to try this out and see how it goes.

so far only one rooster got frost bite on his comb. rest of the birds are doing well. the one is a welbar with huge comb and wattles...and he plays in his water. have a few cockerels that need processing and just set all the rest of the eggs to the incubator this morning. 3 flats of chickens and another of turkeys. candled a few turkeys and there are a few that are perking along. my red slate hen is sitting...diligently on nothing...sigh. and all the turkeys are laying like mad still so doubt they will have a spring lay this year. the chickens have slowed down and my ameraucanas and leghorns have quit for the last month...hope they pick up soon! my welsummers are laying like mad! and my old barred rock boy just turned 7 last week!! still protecting the girls. had a coyote in the field this morning just passing through-river is flooded so i guess the field was easier than walking through the woods right now. i feel bad for chatham-hopefully they can fix the dike fast and move the ice dam out....have a great weekend all!

I love all this talk about tractors...i have a 1946 Ford 2N...runs like a top...starts on the first spin..someone previous to me changed it to 12v with an alternator from the 6v generator version but otherwise its all original cept the rubber...amazing machine and you can still get parts brand new, some from Ford and some from third party folks...same with Massey, Ferguson, Allis Chalmers, Cockshutt etc...the tractors do the work, no electronics to go pfffttt in the field, a basic tool set and you can fix em if you are anywhere near competent...the new stuff?... Won't buy it...its garbage and loaded with trickery...ross has it right, globalization has messed things up big time to no ones advantage except the seller and that's not us...my old 2N may only have mid twenty in HP but it does the job..only thing i havent tried on it and am a little sceptical on whether it has enough horses is a square bale baler..have my eye on a nice old ( aka 1968 ) John Deere baler...but i may also break down and buy a Massey Ferguson 35 gas tractor assuming i can find one...as much as i love my 2N, that Massey Ferguson 35 has got to rank right up there as one of the finest tractors ever made...now to find a few extra scheckles for that... :run:
