Yes I do have a dog...a little fluffy one that my daughter rescued. He is actually an active little squirrel and chipmunk hunter but stays pretty close to the woodstove at night when ninja weasel is around. I laughed when I read that...he always runs outside quickly in the winter and rushes straight for the bird feeder. You never know when a squirrel might be there and you need a running start. The squirrels are getting pretty used to me being around...I feed them on my kitchen window so they are used to my face. yesterday the dog went flying out towards the feeder when I went out to fill them. A squirrel hadn't bothered to run away when the door opened but was surprised be the dog barking...he jumped off the feeder and landed right on the dog's head, bounced off and still made it to the tree, but barely. Simba thought he finally had one !

Sounds like you need a stake out with a 12g, 20g or a 22 with pellets.....turn off all the lights except a red light and wait for it to raid the trap.

Hard to explain on web but personally I'd take all traps out (one trap one source of food )but one tunnel / rat type then using wood screws placed in top of trap to guide only one way thru over paddle & place one trap then another behind about 1" apart . Again with guides (verticle screws )so only can go thru /paddle not over . Not sure how you do yours but be sure traps screwed to floor of wood tunnel so can't move & top of tunnel 1/4" higher than trap wire when at top of death swing . Luck
A tunnel thru the trap & out the other side was only way we could catch martin . Don't know if this helps maybe that's what you've already done .Tweak as necessary . With all your birds gone you have a perfect chance with one trap & no worry bout losing more birds . Eventually it will move on if no food around . Luck

I am not a fan of poison with other animals around but if he is taking the bait might be time to lace it!

We been finding rats with their heads half off... Hidden in our fire pit.. You need 3 good cats like we have. Lol.

Sandy- Dont point gun at anyone, finger totally away from trigger, and make sure when you put it back down on table its pointing in safe direction still. Prove it safe. You'll be fine. Good luck.

Happy Sunday everyone.

The old water pail with corn floating with ramp attached works well for rats too.

Well, done. Passed. 92% written and 98% practical. Written was a bit 'off' ... It's all in the interpretation of some of the questions and when it's a new language for you, it's easy to not get the exact question. For example. Can you use modern day ammunition in an older rifle. Sure. Why not. Because in my head you've been responsible and had it inspected by a professional. Umm. Nope. When I asked the inspector he said welllllllll no not really because the barrel of a really old gun could be compromised and more modern day ammunition could be (is) more powerful and I said well fuck Bill, clarity on the age of the gun would be appreciated. So they were talking like 1st and 2nd war aged guns, ones that would be on display at museums. Ya .. Whatever. Lol

Anyways, got'er done. Not doing the hunters today - have work commitments but will get to it in the early spring. I'm not in a hurry to hunt. Also going to take my restricted. If I take in the same calendar year as my non-restricted it's a 4-5 hour course. Outside of a calendar year and I start back at zero.

Learned you need to write a turkey exam to hunt turkeys. Who knew! Something new for deer this year? I dunno, half heard .... We were there federally, not provincially or municipally so we didn't really get into those hunting talks, more of a drop of a sentence here and there I grasped. Learned I can better protect my property by calling the municipal office and finding out the discharge laws, we have some unruly hunters here that I have to call the OPP on (thankfully haven't seen them yet this year) also an idiot down the road who uses his jeep in the middle of a field as target practice. Except he points and shoots in the direction of my property. So when he's out (only a few times a year with his 20 friends shooting up a jeep) I don't let Josh out back on his ATV. those days are done crazy neighbour!

Learned a lot. I mean a lot. I had NO idea what an 'action' was, or even held a gun to be frank. I was really really behind the 8-ball when I walked in on Friday. A lot of tragedies shared amongst the group and the instructors. Everyone there has had experience with rifles, shotguns etc., (except me of course) and plenty knew of people who have had loss of life, intentional or accidental, with rifles. #1 misuse of a rifle. Suicide. #2 misuse. Homicide. This is why 'hunters' get bad names. Because you don't read in the paper, today Jo Blow went hunting, shot the deer once, killed instantly, obeyed municipal, provincial and federal (by)laws and went home safely to his family. No. You hear about tragedies and misuse. I get it. But I also experience complete arrogant assh*les over here when it comes to hunting. Not a good combination. But I keep in the forefront, there are a lot of responsible hunters I don't ever see and don't ever have conflict with.

I am left eye dominant, but a right handed shooter. Will take some getting used too I'm told. I plan on joining the Hamilton Gun Club and I'll sign myself up for some lessons to get more acquainted and see if I can get trained to shoot left. Not likely I'm told. But I'll figure it out either way. I've wanted to do skeet shooting for a very very long time!!! Woooohoooo!!!

Warm today. Raining. Should be cold and snow. Clearly I've been ripped off of my winter. Mosquitos out yesterday when I got home. Poor Silkie. Ran into wall chasing a mosquito. Love them, they just aren't the most visually prepared breed. Haircuts!!! I have a non-bearded Silkie ... Think I like these better .. They can see!

Not sure how this warm weather will affect maple syrup? Finishing up coffee then out to do some much needed coop chores and hang out with my chickens. Then work...blah

How often do you change your nesting box materials? I feel like I might be a bit OCD on this....possibly. Likely.

Happy Sunday!
