The real issue is there are so many different purebreads, it's hard to choose just one. So, go for a couple of every type....but wait.......that's chicken math

Wow what a great resource! Looks like my latest acquisition, polish, won't be broody either. I love this forum.baronrenfrew wrote: ↑Sat Apr 21, 2018 8:59 pmeverything you buy at a hatchery - barred rocks, sex links, production reds or whites - are extremely unlikely to go broody- they've been bred not to.
some pure breeds may will go broody. some bantam breeds - old english game, cochins - are 90% likely to go broody. then there's silkies : they may go broody twice or three times in a year. check the chart:

A farm a few km from me does that! He orders chicks, a few different breeds every January-February, from Performance Poultry http://www.performancepoultry.com/poultry.php
and come fall, sells off his extras. Just to have something different every year.
They have a huge selection of hatchery quality breeds, but limited supply on some of the hard to find ones.

And this is how I can't settle on a specific breed
