Oops, from Elgin
I keep meaning to put an introduction, but I’ve been too engrossed reading many of the posts.
We ( husband, 3 horses, 4 dogs, 2 cats and 4 chickens, soon to be more ) live on a small hobby farm north of Kingston. We’ve been here almost 20 years. We kept chickens (meat and layers) geese, and turkeys previously, but now that I’m retired as well, I’m getting us back into them. Hubby came home with a “rescue rooster “ a few weeks ago, and that was the trigger. He’s a Jersey Giant. The bird, not my husband. We picked him up a few hens at auction. 2 jerseys who I think are too old to lay, or else they are on strike, and a buff Orpington who is a sweety and DOES lay. This weekend I’m picking up some Orpington chicks and some Wyandottes.
Keeping poultry is like an addiction where you think you are clean, but when you go back it’s usually with more gusto than where you left off.
Really enjoying the reading material on this site!

Welcome to PTO! You are absolutely correct...if you ever leave off with poultry, you cannot have "just one", ever again, or suddenly you have a hundred. I would love to see pictures of your flock!

Howdy neighbour! I am just down the road and around the corner, if you are on your way to Westport. We were just in town (as in yours) the other night, at the Just Some Kind of Choir presentation at the United church.
