Everything looks good this am, I'm amazed.
Also this am I reunited my lovebirds Chunky and Miss Cheryl (his ex). He hadn't been showing too much interest in the 4 pullets but he and Cheryl had been gazing at each other through the fence. She got into the paddock yesterday and was trying to get into his pen. Now they are back together along with the pullets. I just hope I can tell her eggs apart because despite being part wheaten ameraucana she lays a tint egg!!!!!!! There was a brief spat when one of the wyandottes looked at her funny but was soon put in her place. I'll keep checking on them though.

i actually drove home in white out conditions yesterday. that was crazy! and there were some branches down and stuff....but amazingly (given that the incubator and heat plates are on) we didn't lose power.....so glad the wind is down today.
busy weekend coming up. tonight i pick up a new barred rock boy! yay! then quarantine starts.....and then chicks (getting big!) to new homes on saturday, and then my nieces are in a skating thing this weekend too....and pens need cleaning and i need to do a mite treatment.
lost a girl yesterday, she'd been egg bound twice over the winter, and this time didn't recover, so did the right thing last night. sucks.....but she had to be 10 pounds and not a bit of muscle left on her, all ascites (fluid in her abdomen). sigh. hate to lose them, but was the right thing.

Yes it's not fair on them when they are like that poor things. Not a fun job but part of the package of care.
Our electric back on no worries.

Well today was our 30th wedding anniversary (39 years together). Had a lovely local smoked ham, our own veggies and some nice Spanish fizz. Got the birds away and I must persuade DH that in view of some posts on this board we need to do a "tick check"!
The really important date will be October 14th this year when we will celebrate 30 years in Canada.

Happy anniversary!!!

Just got back from watching the figure skating club end of year show for my nieces club. They can skate!!
Of course that means chores are late....lol and dog is starving. To heck with physio. Spent the morning spreading manure...yes i did shower before the skating lol
Fixed up my breeding pens and got a new to me barred rock boy. He spent a bit of time in quarantine and just met with his new harem today. He was already trying to scoop them up within 5 mins. Has a bit of winter frost bite but seems like a respecatble production barred rock which is what i was looking for.

Old boy is outside with 10 cull girls...including 2 egg eaters....argh. the change in location threw them...i got 10 eggs from the group today lol.
Theyll be free ranging as soon as i fence off the gardens.
Whenever i get to that. Need to stop planning weekend things!!

He is a WEIRD shape for a Rock, even a production one! Looks like he wanted to be a Wyandotte or an Orpington in a past life lol! Or maybe he's just clenching because he's hot to trot for the ladies ;) Nice barring for a hatchery boy though!
