Cold here today. I had the day off for medical appointments, went well. In the process of finishing up making some pork chili and seafood stew to freeze for lunches and quick dinners. Tacos for dinner tonight, made from leftover beef and venison we had on Sunday.

We have only had a couple weeks of winter, but I am ready for spring.

Happy Birthday Dean!!!!  :HappyDance:
Hope it's a great one!

feels colder today than yesterday.....came home yesterday to discover the turkeys had somehow pulled down the wire between the pens and were all mixed in together again...hubby helped me out putting that back up. and one of my older black tailed buff marans succumbed to the cold last night. i figured he was having some heart issues a few days ago, purply comb...well, last night his comb was black and he met me at the door covered in ice! cold and his feet were frozen solid-i think his heart was failing so he had absolutely no circulation anymore....so i put in my coat to warm up a bit, and then did the deed....sigh. i hate putting birds down, but definitely his time, and he would never have recovered.... it wasn't even that cold, only -2 in the barn, so. he's sired some nice kids over the years. just couldn't tolerate the cooler temps any more. none of the other birds in the barn have any issues like that. and i checked, their pen isn't drafty or anything. so. but it's not bad for an older bird...my second generation black tailed buff marans boy, so at least 5 years old...at least. looked after his girls well for those years too. luckily i saved back 4 of his grandsons, 3 of which are looking decent.

have this blasted cold that i cannot shake....going on a few weeks now, just low grade. driving me insane! hopefully it's on its way out now.
ordered a load of firewood to arrive on saturday :-) it always looks "warm" when we stack that up outside the house. nice a cozy inside with the woodstove going.

well, onwards with the day! (caffeine first....)

Happy Birthday Dean!!

Hope your cold gets better WLLady..... is it the same one incubating... holding when I was there?? Did I give you my strain?? Damn colds. Is Martin all better? Or should I address him as Admin, anyhow, lolol.

Well.... said goodbye to a good cow this morning... for some reason her one foot/leg developed problems... she was walking perfect two days ago. She'd been inside in her own pen, because the cows have always picked on her, and we have trimmed her feet in the past. Her days were limited anyhow, but I was hoping to calve her out, before hamburgering her. Well... she did walk on the trailer, which surprized me, she did put weight on the foot, and walked well off. They put her right in the 'box' when Gary got her there... so she didn't have to stand around at all. Thats good. She will come home in a couple weeks or so.

Too bad about your Roo WLLady.... these animals we breed/raise/care for can put a hole in your heart in a hurry.

I'm cold. Its warmer out, and I think thats the problem. When its colder, I stay warmer. The dampness has crept in. I didn't sleep well last night (nothing new), and I could just go take a hot bath, and crawl in between the heated mattress pad and the fuzzy sheets, and just call it a day/night, lol. When I get home from bus.. its to the elevator to pick up a cheque, and then rush it to the bank. Last day today to buy seed corn with 6% off. Money money money.

My sister just told me shes giving notice at her job, and taking a job at a hatchery in York. Caledonia/Cayuga way... I believe. Great. With bird flu on the horizon, I will have to tell her NOT to ever visit, lol.
