cuddly couple

Post by hayladee » Sun Jan 28, 2018 12:53 pm

Anyone ever have a hen and roo that are inseparable? Roo climbs in the nestbox with hen, they sleep in a nest box together. don't really have a problem with that but when she lays an egg, he climbs in with her and their shuffling for space in the nest box ends with her egg and sometimes two or three layed in the box before her getting cracked.... any ideas ?

I once had an elderly girl and a much younger boy have a December May romance. They always hung out together.

That was Lucky and Miss Mouse (8 years old), he was heartbroken after she was killed in the dog attack and kept searching. They do remember. Oh and the not a bobcat is still around or descendant.

roflmbo Ross you made my day with this comment!

I have seen this behavior a lot with Cochins, I had a rooster that I had to move because he wanted to stay in the nest while the hen was trying to hatch. Sometimes with silkie roosters as well, so not unheard of.

OK so this is all your fault Hayladee! Just found Frank, the rooster, happily sitting on eggs in the shed, WTH. I'm sure he's just helping out keeping them warm in this weather until I can collect them.
