Re: Good Morning!
Well, we are finally getting some january weather...not sure I'm fond of it...and I am quite sure the girls don't ...lol...went down to Brockville yesterday to chk out the sale on the small wine cooler on sale at Rona...i think it can be done converting it into an incubator but decided against it as my plate is full at the moment...fit in a delightful visit with KB and got a great look at her wonderful turkeys...and the other birds as well...thank you Gill for the warm hospitality...I found Earl is being a tad rough on the girls' combs lately...not a trait i much care for but what can one do...if it gets worse I may just end up with one more baggie in the freezer...also not something I'm looking forward to...anyway, back at it..another cold one today...birds are hungry...cheers...Tom

Re: Good Morning!
Nice to finally meet TomK, interesting guy esp re off grid stuff! Enjoyed his visit and Lucky behaved well. Poor boy is a bit subdued after Sat afternoon. Chita came around and found he'd got all the girls inside and was screaming at a great gray owl! Fortunately she scared off the owl and he seems relieved, didn't even take a run at her like he usually does. Good brave boy! I'm pretty sure the owl was looking for rodents around the feeders but those guys are big.

Re: Good Morning!
Morning everyone.
Yep, my last skid of shavings a couple of the bags must have been bagged fresh...they do break apart and aren't COMPLETELY frozen....used a couple in the horse run in-it's frozen anyways, and the ice sublimated quite nicely out of them, nice and dry and fluffy now. but it's like trying to lift an 80 pound 2x3 brick....lol.
So i have one of those old wine fridges. i tried to convert it....i will be trying again. i had it running with a light bulb (2x60w) for heat, and the fans, but the temp was so uneven through the fridge, i need to gut it and try again. they really do need a forced air kind of system through the back of the fridge. so that's the next thing i will try when i get the time and energy. The thermostats were a bit of an issue, i found a couple that worked well for a couple of months and then gave up. i never got a good hatch out of it...and honestly, been saving my sheckles for a sportsman down the road.
nice to see some winter, should make for an okay syrup season in the spring now. if it stays below zero for a little while anyways. rumour has it, close to 0 on the weekend again? well, tuesday morning. means up and at 'em again for the day. nice that it wasn't so cold this morning. one of my heated dog dishes doesn't like -18C. it's okay at -12...so yesterday was a hot water supplement day for that dish. today it was okay....new thermostat on the way from digikey or something. i have another dish that needs a thermostat too, so ordered a few ;-P maybe they'll arrive today and i can put them in later and test them overnight tonight.
oh, wait, i think al offered to rebuild the fridge for me ;-P LOL. it's on my list to do....someday.
have a great day everyone.

Nice morn , nice to be retired . Had a nice aft visit with Al & his family yesterday . My GS dog just loved having all them younguns around petting him . They entertained themselves playing with my toy cars & listening to different bird calls in a people activate birds of N America book we have . Showed kids the pigeon coop & the birds they'll be getting in spring & discussed them . As said before what a great bunch a kids , family , so well behaved even Al
inquisitive & no noses stuck in a device . Even got Al to help me move/ fix a couple a things I couldn't do . Al also looked at taking down some pigeon pens in barn loft . Thanks Bud , great aft . All birds doing well in this weather . Need more snow .

Re: Good Morning!
Good Morning all!
Yes it was a great afternoon at Ross's house! We all had a blast thats for sure! Those Banty Chanteclers and Hamburgers are very nice birds! even the Mutts and especially the Pigeons! the kids really cant wait for spring to come so we can set up a nice pen and get some pigeons! Im brainstorming some ideas for a loft and think Iv come up with a good idea... we have a play house/club house (old pool deck) that needs to be rebuilt/kideritized and Im going to incorporate the pigeons as a part of it.
Well I never mind helping out Ross, I'll make the trip down anytime to give you a hand. Its 1 hour 12 mins according to gps sitting in your driveway, not sure I believe it, I dont think it took that long to get home, or Im just getting used to the longer drive LOL. and since Lizzie left her treasured coffee cup in your barn Ill be heading back sooner rather than later, with my trailer and prolly a buddy to disassemble the loft and reuse it all over here. Man thats a great set up you have up there!
My good buddy Franks and I completely disassembled a 30' covered wood deck out at camp without breaking a board all in one day... Thats where a lot of my pressure treated lumber came from that Im almost out of. We make a good team him and I and are going into business together for all exterior house work... he scored an incredible deal on a fully loaded work trailer so were guna make a go at it come spring/summer. Just imagine all the feeders and waterers I can make on a real break out of stock aluminum!!! Im pumped about that! LOL
Thanks man and have a great day all!

Re: Good Morning!
Good morning, sounds like everybody had a great time visiting at KB & Ross.
Windy and cold here, thermometer on the outside of barn frozen at -5, I think I will leave it there.
Have a safe one!

Re: Good Morning!
Kathy... You should get the STC1000 or the thermostat I used MH1210F off Ebay which default settings are set up for hatching chicken eggs out of the box. Then get/build an external box on top to house your light bulbs... and Of course Id be glad to build it!
I forgot to say 3/5 kids had perfect check ups!!! 1 needed an extraction because the tooth is stuck not allowing the adult tooth to push through and another had a couple cavities... hmmmmmm Frustrating! Lizzie is taking them back today to be fixed up.
HAHA thats a good one OC! you know you live in Canada when... LOL :rofl1:
