Re: Who do I breed to whom?
This is what the surviving chick grew up to look like. Except for the blue, and the dark hackles, her pattern is obviously not her mothers. No dark "Columbian" tailfeathers, which is odd because both parents had them. She is mottled like her father, but with none of his red leakage. She didn't get the brownish pencilling/mossiness from her mother, either. Just blue and white.

Thank you, Robbie, I'm quite fond of her myself! She's got a place in my project pen for sure, and has earned her mother the coveted 'breeder' status lol. Speaking of pretty, OC that blue cock is very lovely, definitely something to crow about!

Interesting, in a way it looks like an exaggeration of the Blue molt in this wyandotte, she was blue until she molted in to this "mystery color"[

OK, the boys are 7 month old, teenagers in the wyandotte world, they will still fill up considerably, but the type is set. There seems to be a bit of an anomaly, some of the tail feathers appear to be partially white, although the shaft is dark.
One of the possible mothers would be the hen with white base in the feathers, that haven't appeared until after she was bred.

Yup, took me 3 years to produce this one!
I agree, hope I can produce more then 1 pullet per year, would be pretty cool to have a flock of them. :)Flat Rock Farm wrote:I don't have any opinion on who to breed whom but I just wanted to say LOVE the Blue Columbian

Re: Who do I breed to whom?
This guy sported a tail feather that was white on one side (you can just see it on the right), grew it in at final chick moult at about 5 months old. I thought it might have been the result of hatching damage or something got ahold of his tail at some point. After last fall's moult, he now has two or three feathers like that--only part of the feather is white, and only on one side of the feather. Apart from that, he's a good looking rooster and I still have him, you know, just in case LOL. I might use him over some of my not-so-good girls, just to see if he passes that white on, before I make final decision on whether or not to continue to keep him.
