Oh dear. Hope you get better soon, KB. Never fun to have a chest infection, but especially not in these temps.
Don't you just love it when medical personnel have trouble believing you just because they've not encountered a patient who isn't a textbook case before? :-|

Holy CRAP its been COLD!!! This morning was one of those mornings that you struggle along with COLD fingers..... ice cold... hurt hurt hurt.... waiting for the burn to come, and start working again. That happened when I came to the house. Ugh.

KB, sorry to hear about your chest infection. Had one last late summer/fall... stayed for WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!. Told it was walking pneumonia and got some drugs. It really made no difference, but slowly went away. Effects were long lasting tho.. shortness of breath.... and coughing up crap long after the chest tightness left. Had a shorter bout of the same thing a few weeks ago. Ignored it, and after 3 weeks its somewhat better. I suspect I will prone to that from now on, when its a simple cold... I'll likely die of that some year.

Sorry to hear about your Hubby Hayladee.... hopefully they can find out the cause of the bleed, and get it fixed once and for all!

Got a turkey egg this morning. Stupid birds. Not many chicken eggs, too freaking cold. THE BEST THING I did was buy two more heated pails and a heated waterer!! Now only have to carry 3 hot water jugs (1.8L size) to the barn. I hammer out the frozen rubber dishes with a hammer, and just add hot to the ice crystals left.

The cows and horses have the frosted icicles on their whiskers this morning, lol. I am sick to death of this crap.

Back to the buses tomorrow. Got the huge snowbank off my bus last week, that obviously wasn't going anywhere in this weather, and started it and let it run 15 minutes. I could NOT get the hood open tho.... I will obviously try today sometime, when it gets to a balmy -9C!!! I'll believe it when I see it, when in the morning I can supposedly go out in my t-shirt to start the bus. If it really climbs to -1C in the morning, I will be sweating!!

The Brick house on the hill is coming along. All painted what I wanted to get painted... except the baseboards. Dave and Gary have been putting down the new ash flooring. It came from Quebec. Its nice. Shouldn't show much golden retriever and orange and white cat hair much, lol. I'm thinking that we may move up there, regardless of the succession stage we are at... as long as we don't have to heat this place, and keep a close eye on things... I will start moving furniture up there. We had a meeting with the guy on Friday. Not sure how all this is going to pan out.

Both of them have a ton to learn about running a farm, and Jeremy's wife is NOT a farmer. She will be NO help to him whatsoever. Barn wise... field work wise..... and their son Jacob is only 6 years old. Oh well. We have all struggled along in our lives... and I am sure, (hopefully) they make a success out of it, or we may all be out of a place to live.

Well... I'm thinking the calves are outside now... we have been locking the barn up tight at night, to keep the water lines from freezing. Bedding those ASSES when they are in a confined space is just suicide, when they bomb thru the straw thrown down, as you try and fork it all over the pen.

My Siatica has been brutal. I'm thinking I will HAVE to go and see what can be done about it. No stretches or anything else I do is helping much.

Stay warm everyone!!

Morning all
KB hope you feel better soon!!! Happy hope that toe doesnt bug you too much, incredible how much we use them for. Been there done that too many times....
Alright. Wheres this -9? It was -26 this morning without windchill. I spent 40$ and put a pipe wrap heating cable on the hydrant in the barn last week. Thankful i did. So far so good with the water. So many tweety birds moved into the barn in the last 3 weeks that i had to tarp my truck against the bird droppings. Gah. I am going to start trapping them i think....this is just a disaster waiting to happen, its its not ib it will be mites or waorms or cib or something!!
I will put screen up across the eaves where they are getting in....but it needs to be warmer than -10 before i burn my hands on wire again. Tired of the cold and its only almost the second week of january. Srping will be very exciting this year when it arrives lol
Yesterday was a struggle to get the tractor going...block heater and battery charger for a few hours....sigh. moved hay, hubby redid the drivewah to get the drifts out....before more snow the next 3 days!! Nothing like ross got....but i am looking forward to putting deicer on the walkway and having it actually work....
Been fussing with paint colours the last while. Along with the renos coming up we are going to paint. House has been 1colour for 10 years through 5 cats and 3 bouncy dogs....scrapes and dings and all that getting fixed and paint....of course we try a bunch of paint and hubby likes the one that is the most identical to what is already on the walls. Go figure. I want to go darker-more colour....but also want a happy husband lol. So i have one more paint sample to try - one shade darker than the one he likes....maybe a compromise....?
And who knew there are 100 different "whites"? Do we want linen white or pure white or satin white or plain white or....? Geeze....i want white! Just plain old white....!!!
Anyways....windows are being replaced this year so wont paint where that work will happen, but might get the other parts started (like the hallways).. maybe
And tomorrow i talk with my pt about setting up a pt plan to follow by myself!! I may someday be able to stop going to pt!! Still have some sore bits and pieces that hes helping with but functionally things are going great. Bit of a pita trying to tie my winter boots....and to get my left sock on yet...but given a year ago at this point i couldnt walk without a walker i will take it!! Yay!
Plan for today (possibly) is to go for a snowshoe....just a little one. And swim. Pool is beautifully warm after coming in from chores! Lol. And try to shake my cold....hubby had it last week. My turn. And move some firewood...oh we brought a load in last night that our feral tom had apparently sprayed. Omg...found the pieces and burnt them post haste. Yuck!!!! The stench was just disgusting.
Chickens are still doing good, turkeys too. Still laying daily..sheesh. hope they have some eggs left come spring!!
Horses were all frosty but fine this morning. I am looking forward to a temp reprieve thouh, even thouh we have had it warmer down here....its been cold a long time.

Yep: winter is here.

We hunkered down for the ridiculous cold since Thursday. Went out to start the car, battery dead, trunk wasn't completely closed.
Tractor wouldn't start, we've been chasing electrical gremlins on that old red for 5 years.
At least the snow wasn't deep enough that i couldn't take the Good Reverend to church with my dad's Subaru.

Gonna spend the afternoon getting everything running.

Well... -32 here this morning and that is without wind chill. I know the news keeps saying we had a tough two weeks but actually for us this started about the first week of December. One of my cats hates being inside any type of building, she loves the outdoors and yet she hasn't set foot outside for over three weeks, she comes to the barn door and just turns and walks away. They are saying we could go up to -11 tomorrow, it's really sad when you think of -11 as being warm! Anyway just in case I'm going to look for my Speedo as I may need to wear it!

Hope you are feeling better soon KB.

Finally some warmer weather in the forecast, then some rain mid-week to freeze everything in ice. Fun!!! Well back to teaching tomorrow, I guess I should go and figure out what I am teaching.

Now planning a new coop: suitable for extreme cold and for brooding chicks March to June. Anybody have an existing coop worth showing a pic of?

Hey WWW, did you ever move your greenhouse- coop to your "new"'place?
Nope, it's still over there, and amazingly, the cover is still in one piece despite several years of sun, ice, cat's claws and goat's hooves. Will need new six by sixes to anchor the bottom I think, but it will make it here eventually :D I'm REALLY missing those coops right now with this cold bull poop.
