The earth moved last night.

Post by Skinny rooster » Thu Dec 28, 2017 2:05 pm

Ah ha! It wasn't my imagination, we had an earthquake last night. It woke me up, at first I thought a big truck was coming down the road but there were no headlights. I then thought also of frost quakes since the nights here have been below -30 for the last few days but they only last a second, this went longer. Now the radio is saying there was an earthquake just north of me.

I get a little spooked by them now because that big one we had back in 2010, the epicenter was close to us so the house was damaged. They say Ottawa being on a fault line could have an earthquake up to a seven!

I remember the 2010 one because we felt it here. I emailed the USGS and I was asked to fill out a report. Apparently I was the first in Brockville area to report because I lived in Victoria BC for a mercifully short while so I was very familiar with them.

I like that Ottawa being on a fault line . Maybe that explains all the bull crap that comes from there .

If Ottawa ever did have THE BIG ONE, it would be nasty because they aren't building things in that city to quake standards...all the old stuff will hit the ground fast and all the new stuff is made out of toothpicks anyway so no harm done there... :running-chicken:

When we first lived there I didn't realise what was happening until I asked someone about the heavy trucks that went by 2/3 times a week. They just laughed and said it was just the tremors!

In 1988 there was a 5+ along that fault line and we were at my grandparents place just northwest of montreal on the edge of a lake and we watched the waves coming the "wrong way" across the lake for the wind that day....it rumbled through like a freight train...shook some things around. That one was apparantly epicentered just near saguenauy right on the fault.

Last one we felt here, was exactly like SC and KB described, I thought a truck drove in the driveway and was running beside the house, wasn't until I went to look and found no truck that I realized what it was.
There were 2 or three others since then, but it happens so seldom, that we always look for some other explanation b before the realization of what it really is sinks in.
We are on bedrock so I figure if the big one hits the house will just slide of to some lower location, or the ground will open and it's going to be quick trip to you know where ;)
