No, they don't. They give birth in the winter. They hunker down and nap a lot, but are up at a moment's notice if they want a snack, kind of like me in winter lol

Yikes!!! I don't know, maybe it's different in the warmer parts of Canada but here they never come out in winter. There are lots and lots of bears around but by November you won't see any again until spring. Warning!!! One of my friends is a total nature nut, he is one of those guys who likes to go camping for weeks on end out in real wilderness and has been in many parks all over. He let me read some books he had on bears and bear behavior. Without fail they all warned about seeing a bear in winter. The reason given was the bear didn't get enough food to store fat over the winter and it's probably starving. This can be from the bear being really old, sick or young and less experienced in finding food. The thing is do you want to meet up with a sick starving bear that is ready to eat the first thing it sees.
I am surprised at the people, one of the main rules for life in the country is DON'T FEED THE BEARS!!!

Yes, SR neither have I ever seen a bear in the winter, nor have I ever heard of anyone else seeing one in the winter. Global warming is messing up a lot of wildlife I think. Skunks for example who are hibernating come out when it gets warm, as they figure winters over, then we go back into a cold snap again. Also, the birds don't always leave in the fall when they are suppose to and some have returned before they should.
Not only should people not feed the bears, but they also shouldn't leave garbage out or anything else that would attract them. It frustrates me when a bear gets shot and people blame the bear for getting into their garbage or something else that is left out that attracts them. It is not always the bears fault!

Me, in order to help warm them up I would consider starting my barbecue.
