That's so awesome yet dangerous. I can not imagine processing thou .. Those feathers look like a personal nightmare. I can still smell the chicken feathers from the warm pot of water if I allow my brain to go there.

So ... Umm... Can turkeys live with chickens? Or do they squabble?

mine are too. i have a "needy" jenny...that follows me everywhere. the boys strut and circle and strut and circle. when i'm home and they're out i have an entourage LOL. 6 turkeys. the only one that doesn't really hang out like that is an ultra skittish bronze/narry girl that i have...and she's always been more aloof. but the other 5 love people. they'll meet people when they get out their cars, or come scurrying over if the door opens to the house. they will even follow the lawnmower around as the grass is being cut. or accompany me into the garden for weeding, and if i close the gate, they all mill around the gate until i come back out....LOL

hope the dentist goes well al!

monday again. not sure how mondays get here so quickly....didn't get much done on the weekend. i did split up my turkeys into the one breeding pair (the reds) and the other 4 will be split up soon. the boys were starting to spar just a wee bit too much for my liking now that the jennys think it's spring or something. they're all posturing for the boys....and the testosterone kicks in and the boys get all pushy and well, boys....sigh. i have one more piece of wire that has to go up to finish separating those pens. maybe later today. my one heated dish is heated until -10. hm. guess i'll be replacing that one. i better do that soon because i think we're dog sitting an outside dog sometime in the next couple of weeks.
met clawton last night (man, that wind was bitter cold in bothwell!) and switched a dark cornish for a pair of young leghorns :-) nice to see the hockey rink so busy in the middle of nowhere! LOL.

hope everyone has a good day!

Sandy, that is the only problem with jennys - when they go broody you need body armour to get near the poults! I tried to catch some poults to get them back to the Mom side of the fence (they are a little dense compared to chicks) and the Jenny came straight at my head and crashed the fence.

Hmmm ..sounds intense, like a previous rooster who tasted not bad at all. I'll have to get out my poultry bible and read up on the turkeys.

I think once my Silkie goes broody she will be vicious !!! She chases you when you go near the nesting box (when she isn't in it) and will growl if she is in it. Take and egg and she pecks at your legs. Bossy boots!

My local RONA has wine fridges on sale for $99. The type with the glass front door. Just saying you could rip out the compressor and put in a heater! Good until Wednesday!

Spent yesterday doing my weekly clean of the coop. I sent Andy to grab more shavings from tsc. Not impressed with the block of ice shavings he brought home. There is no way I can use them. They are like giant ice cubes! I don't understand why tsc doesn't cover them to protect them from rain. Now I'll have to go else where.

Ya, I hate that too. I do think tho... that some of them are bagged, the minute they are milled... and the shavings are not dry. Some of them have smelled pretty piney. Then of course, they are stacked/stored outside, or in an unheated truck/warehouse.
