Don't be concerned if they get a reddened eye with the first administration of the vaccine, it's normal!
Thanks Ross. Just delivering some turkeys I sold so that's not a worry.

I have 20 half grown turkeys plus 7 adult turkeys, 8 guineas and all my chickens to give the vaccine to some time soon, by myself of with my 15 year old daughter should be fun.

Question, are they meat turkeys? If so, why do you vaccinate?

Re: Administering vaccine through the eyes...
Neither Jims nor mine are meat turkeys. Mine are Beltsvilles for a conservation thing and Jim has various breeding projects too! I do eat the culls and they are delicious but they take at least 6 months to grow out preferably longer. They also free range and breed naturally. Here is a link for info.

Ooh lovely! They are very pretty and this makes a lot of sense :) Do you all vacinate your guineas though?

As KB said my turkeys are breeding stock or grow out for breeding stock... 2 lines of Beltsville Small Whites, Black and slate turkey breeds, Chocolate turkeys and tricolour turkeys. The ones that do not make the cut will be eaten but I will not decide who that is until around Christmas.

Done! That wasn't so bad... crept in by the moonlight, snatched them one by one and assailled them with the mighty blue drops. Victory!
What's with the 6 week recall - do you HAVE to do it? Dr Weber said only once was ok, kinda confused now. Thank you everyone for the advice, PTO is da bomb. :)

I will be doing mine as a booster too 6 - 10 wks later but only on the birds that have not been vaccinated before. The adults only get done once a year because they've bene done before.

Ok.... so you redo the adults every year? Hmmm... I didn't know that. So the pleasure continues... the guineas were particularly enjoyable.
