Re: Good Morning!
Daily visitors here, definitely combined families now, using my potato bed for dust bath and then having snack of apples under the apple tree.

Re: Good Morning!
hi everyone
i saw a "kindergarden" group too milling around on the side of the road just by the end of my driveway this morning too. happy to have them eat all the grasshoppers they want
well, i decided against the fall hunting thing. sigh. tried out the stand on the weekend and combined with the walk out, and the going up and down the treestand and the walk back was a little too much punishment on the back. talked with the physiotherapist today about it, and he said it's just going to take time to develop the muscles and that he also would recommend taking it easy this fall. there will be deer next year.....so a little bummed out, but it will give me time to concentrate on my birds and doing some things around the farm that need doing quietly before winter. and all the onus will fall on hubby to bring home the meat for the fall. so there.
i'm still undecided about mount forest fall sale. i do have some turkeys and ready to lay but i could probably sell them from home and avoid the drive....lol. not much market for freeloaders....those will likely end up down at auction just because....or in the crockpot on low for a day or so. they're 4 and 5 year old hens that haven't laid anything for months now....they're going to spend a little time in the outside coop and if after a month they are still not moulting or laying with the change in venue and free ranging, then they're going. slackers.
rainy day here today...hope the weather gets a little less humid soon....too warm.....!

Re: Good Morning!
For the last 3 days those pretty purple aster/daisy things and the zinnias have been covered with not only bees of all types but painted ladies and monarchs (and/or viceroys). So pooh to the neighbour who keeps "advising" me to dig the aster things out!

Re: Good Morning!
i found a praying mantis on my window yesterday LOL. just hanging out....and all of a sudden we have monarchs and bees around too! and hummingbird moths! those are super cool. we had a lot of the butterflies that the caterpillars eat the parsley...what are those called??? argh! black swallowtails! we get a few every year, but this year they ate my parsley to the ground!
had a bonfire last night and saw a pile of shooting stars. not sure which "show" this is, but they were just as good as the perseids in august! and the fog this morning was beautiful.
physio yesterday i started "learning" how to throw again. ha ha! i'm proud to say i do not throw like a girl. i'm embarrassed to say, i throw WORSE than a girl! LOL. oh dear. so many things to "relearn". at least i can laugh at myself. i think i'm going to have a slower day today. thank goodness physio is only twice a week! it's doing wonders, I'm so much more mobile that i imagined!!!!
woke up this morning wondering "why am i hearing gravel"? hubby got up and goes "there's a horse on the lawn". hm. SOMEONE in the barn got out of their pen, pulled down the electric fence tape over the door (that was open because it's too darned hot and humid), allowing the horses to walk right through the barn and onto the lawn, where they were happily stuffing their noses with grass.....hm.....i think the guineas days are numbered.....rotten birds. looks like i have 4 boys and 1 girl. of course. so, if BVF comes down to visit (HINT) i need to figure out which is the girl, and keep one girl and one boy and that is IT. martin can have his "pheasant" dinner of the other 3.....they do taste wonderful.
hope everyone has a fantastic (try to stay cool) weekend!!!!

Re: Good Morning!
Love this time of year, there is a whole corner behind the barn we don't cut the grass on, just for the Asters they are abuzz with bees and butterflies, everybody stocking up fot the winter or migration.Killerbunny wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 3:30 pmFor the last 3 days those pretty purple aster/daisy things and the zinnias have been covered with not only bees of all types but painted ladies and monarchs (and/or viceroys). The asters are everywhere here in all the amazing shades but that corner is just full, you can hear the buzz long before you see them
Also awash in apples, harvested some Wolf River, every one over 1/2 lb, Northern Spy and Mac's.
The cold storage is full and the trees are also still full, anybody willing to "pick your own" is welcome to come and get them before the deer and raccoons get them. :)

Re: Good Morning!
Going to be a scorcher for the next couple days but am still attempting the garden clean up. Most of the veggies are done except the brussel sprouts. Bumper crop of tomatoes this year, I never got any put down but sure shared lots with family and friends. Won't touch a tomato now until next year....
I have been seeing a lot of walking sticks this past week, the most I have seen in years they are so cool.
Also my Forsythia has one branch in full bloom, weird???
Have a good weekend everyone and stay

Re: Good Morning!
Too hot to coop all the turkeys at night even with all the ventilation. The old girls calmly go in, Stephen has a private coop and the youngsters are hanging out on the roost we made under a roof (there are a pair of great grey owls locally). At least they're inside a paddock with an electric fence. I still worry because the coyotes around here are sounding crazy these nights! Next line of defence is standing by kitchen door.
