Re: Light bulbs keep blowing
My guess would be bad wiring...even with high humidity, they should not be constantly dying. Methinks you have a mouse nest in the walls, or if bare wire, inspect the wires thoroughly for cracks/ breaks, test conductivity at either end. Could be as simple as a bad extension cord, intermittent conduct will drastically reduce bulb life, but you may not notice with a cfl. Screw in an incandescent bulb and see if it flickers. If it does, kill that circuit immediately until fixed. Fire hazard.

the other thing is how you install them...if you hold the base while screwing them in they seem to last a lot longer. many are very sensitive to fingerprints on the glass tube...and will crack there and die....and if you tighten them by holding the glass it breaks the connections inside and you could very easily have a fire.....been there, tried those bulbs, took them all out again in short order. had 2 burn....thankfully i was home and then went when i turned them on, but scary nonetheless. i don't trust them.

I have vents in coop OC and door is open almost 12 hours a day (man size door) and they are outside all day. They lay eggs and roost in coop that's it. Poop tarp in use .. And emptied every day despite it being frozen lol. But I'm going to switch lights to what Bert suggested and see if that makes a diff.

whats wrong with an LED bulb?...I won't use flourescents anywhere but in my grow light starter frames where I haven't found a proper replacement...but the LEDs work ok in the cold...and the power consumption is actually less than the CFLs...and theres a little heat off them but a 40w equivalent is only warm to my touch...little warmer on the 60w version...but they only use 7-9 watts...living off the grid makes one inventive

Thank you for thinking of me Sandy, but I made no comments about your ventilation, perhaps you have mistaken me for ross?SandyM wrote:I have vents in coop OC and door is open almost 12 hours a day (man size door) and they are outside all day. I may resemble that
