Re: For WWW...What am I?
Sorry to bother you, @Snyder , For some reason I thought you were trying to deliberately breed slow feathering chickens. Maybe I'm thinking of someone else? SOMEONE was trying to take the NN gene to the extreme and make their chickens mostly bald, sound familiar> For ease of plucking during processing.I thought those genes might apply here.

No problem. I have been working on a large, pea combed, naked neck bird(pea comb/naked neck combo is suppose to produce slightly less feathering than single comb/naked neck). I had identified, to the best of my knowledge, the feather growth rate gene present at one point but growth rate of the feathers hasn't really been a contributing factor in this project.

6 weeks old. Lola is still mothering him or her. The chick is starting to calm down a wee bit finally.

I think it has all the makings of a "house" chicken.
What a conversation piece.

Re: For WWW...What am I?
7 weeks old. Looks a little redder in pics than normal because he/she was MAD at me for picking up. Wow. I call it Stella the Fella just to cover all options. He/she actually looks exactly like it's mom at 7 weeks. No wattles really and still orange and not red. She acts like a hen BUT I have faith in the two people that said boy! The kinda good news is that my new neighbor may want it if it's a roo. Not for breeding just because she thought Stella was adorable.

I'm thinking Stella, not Fella, even though she is a bit "butch".
Really interesting bird.

He/she just keeps getting even more funny looking! No wonder Stella is so stand-offish, I think it can probably hear my laughter and I'm giving it a complex :D Stop! Hammer Time!

Re: For WWW...What am I?
@windwalkingwolf I just might make your day! I think I have another chick like this!
2 1/2 weeks old. Only difference is it's big and gangly compared to it's siblings and it's blue. It's a pure Cochin (only 2 pure in this batch and 4 mixed) My niece has been calling it T-Rex. Both Cochins feathers are behind the mixed Cochin/rocks. But the other Cochin (barred) is ahead of this one!
