Our corn was better with the turkeys, the browsed through it and we ended up with no bugs in it!

The wild turkeys around here drive us mental with our hard corn and popcorn! We plant it....they wait until it is at the two leaf stage...and then the buggers pull it up and eat the kernel! they do it methodically row by row! Two tears ago we had to actually replant about 8 acres!

Wind will cross pollinate corn over 100 feet away. I made the mistake one year of planting sweet corn in a plot, and about 120 feet away, planting ornamental/'Indian corn. The sweet corn was riddled with chewy, starchy discoloured seeds. Still edible but barely LOL.

You can stagger the plantings so that the plants are not in tassel at the same time. We have grown two varieties side by each doing this. We do like to plant them far apart though when we have the option.
