Good morning ,
Another hot one, on my way to get some chick starter, this might be a bit optimistic move on my part as the broody is down to 8 from original 10 eggs due to hatch tomorrow.
Was going to wait until I heard chirping to get the feed, then decided that was cutting it a bit too close and I may cause an accident, found out the Wool growers in Carleton Place isn't carrying Flax bedding anymore, there just wasn't enough interest in it, which was bound to happen, just wish I have stocked up on it.

OC, FYI - I found out at the beginning of May that the Old Co-op in North Gower is stocking it again. I was sooo happy,and drove right on out there to buy some. Unfortunately, I can only fit three bags in the back of my car at a time. :-(
I know it's a bit of a drive for you, but just thought I`d mention it anyway.

good morning everyone!
sold a few of my older layers to a retirement farm yesterday and found out that my rhode island red boy is a wee tad possessive. he all out attacked me, had to throw him out into the hall and lock myself in with the girls to get them.....so he will be going to the outside coop with the older layers when they move and be a protector bird against all the predators. hubby got me and ice pack so the bruise thankfully isn't too bad, but man my hand is swelled up today and sore. sigh. bad bird! but good bird, i was threatening his girls.....i suspect he will taste just fine in the crock pot.

hoping at least the humidity will break today. it was yucky yesterday. ac in the truck is waiting for repair, they are having issues getting parts....hopefully will be done later this week. thankful for AC at work

interviewing new students today...should be interesting. then physio again. then the omni-present weeding in the garden. my tomatoes have flowers already, the peppers too. the summer squash might even have an edible squash by the end of next week and the strawberries are just going red! yay! letting the asparagus grow now.....lettuce is doing amazing, ready for picking and all the herbs have gone totally crazy.

Hoping my broody sticks - she hopped off a few times yesterday likely because of the heat. We have put the fans on in the coop for her. I thought egg production was down and I've found the new nest under the nice cool hydrangea bush, makes a change from under the rhubarb like last year!

Good morning all, been a crazy week....beautiful clear skies for the first time and the haybine was in high gear! It allllllll went down, heehee, first time we got a chance to cut and its all plenty mature, mostly big bales with just enough smalls for our steady customers. the hay market hit the skids last year after two GREAT years and we decided not to give it away so several mows are still filled. I have another hen gone broody so scooped her and a bunch of eggs up and put her in a rabbit hutch....tight wire so hopefully no predators this time (dang CATS!) She is happy with the move, tried it last year and hen went bonkers....scratched out the eggs and straw all over the hutch and paced the cage. That was a pure americauna and this one is a mutt, lol. Bought a bunch of used panel gates for the critters and have to go pick them up today....then haul a load of shavings, get trailer loaded with hay (gonna cheat and fill from broke down wagon out in the hayfield) then help grandkiddoes get ready for the fair this weekend....and one of them has a birthday today so have to wrap the little gifts I've been collecting for her...Oh and of course the cows...salt blocks to be replaced and check for newbabies, bottle calf calling then bed and feed ......everything!

what is the appeal about "flax" bedding over ordinary straw or shavings? Just wondering....

the flax is really nice, like really really finely chopped straw with the bonus treats (leftover flax seeds) included. easy to scoop and not dusty. alas, cannot find anything like it down this way....
