Banded goose

Post by Shnookie » Tue May 02, 2017 11:29 am

This morning I took a picture of this goose. When I looked at it on the computer I noticed it has a red band on one leg, and what looks like a silver band on the other leg. My zoom wasn't good enough to show the numbers on the red band. I couldn't see any bands on the mate. Does anyone know what groups would be banding Canada geese? If someone shoots a Canada goose that is banded are they supposed to report it?

I guess they either band in other areas of the country or this goose decided to head west from Belleville Ontario!

the very first duck I shot had a band! the poor guy didnt make it very far. he was banded on the south US side of the Lake St. clair and I shot him on the Canadian north side a couple weeks later. he was a mallard. some bands are worth serious money like $50 or even $100. this encourages people to report them whether they shot it or found it. I only got the one. I reported it on the website on the band and received a certificate in the mail. :-)

I've got an old tobacco kiln cross the road that shares its roof peak at different times with Turkey Buzzards & Canada Geese . Lol
